Position Title: Groundskeeper

Department: Maintenance/Grounds Keeping

Reports To: Superintendent(s), Athletic Director and Director of Maintenance

Type Position: Non-exempt

SUMMARY: To perform skilled maintenance tasks for the District including maintaining the HS sports complex primarily. Also the rest of the grounds around HS, Career Center and Alternative school to include mowing, landscaping, trimming, fertilizing and pruning. Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on the campus and maintain equipment in a state of operating excellence, cleanliness and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts preventive maintenance inspections on HS grounds which is to include SCCC, alternative school building, and the sports complex
  2. Paints all game and practice fields for all sports and band
  3. Determines what equipment is broken or operating inefficiently on all the grounds to include the Booster concession building, restrooms, bleachers, lights on fields and around the campus on the outsides of buildings.
  1. Repairs, replaces or works with AD to get a variety of fixtures and equipment such as lights, electric motors, HVAC, water coolers and ice machines repaired and maintained.
  2. Orders and processes supplies and equipment and maintains inventory according to district policy.
  3. Advises Superintendent (s) and Director of Maintenance in determining when repairs can be done in-house and when outside professional assistance is required.
  4. Keeps the exterior of buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and adjacent grounds neat and clean at all times.
  5. Shovels, plows, and salts/sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps throughout the district when there is inclement weather..
  6. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building
  7. Maintains flag, flag poles and lights on athletic fields
  8. Maintains all athletic signage and out buildings on HS campus.
  9. Scrubs, maintains and disinfects:ticket booths,press boxes,restrooms and floors before and after ball games to ensure cleanliness and sanitation
  10. Maintains light fixtures and drinking fountains daily at the athletic complex and cleans the press boxes.
  11. Keeps grounds free of rubbish/trash.
  12. Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting and tree trimming as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition. This includes the SCCC, Annex, alternative buildings, etc.
  13. Keeps all walking surfaces in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state or submits work orders when there is a concern and marks the areas of trip hazards.
  14. Cleans stadium before and after events
  15. Reports any damage to school property to the appropriate administrator immediately.
  16. Moves furniture and equipment as directed in summer months.
  17. Other Duties as assigned.

MPS Perpetual Calendar Obligations:

  1. Treat moles on entire campus every March and July, or as needed
  2. leaf removal on entire campus annually in October or November
  3. fertilizers on fields annually as needed
  4. painting lines, curbing, and restrooms at sports complex every other year
  5. conducting bleacher inspections and fence and barrier inspections and submitting written reports to AD

Qualifications, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :

  1. High school diploma supplemented by formal training in related trade preferred
  2. Three years minimum work related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  3. Ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision.
  4. Applicators license or willingness to obtain and maintain in first year

EVALUATION :

Annually by Superintendent and AD in accordance with district practices

Term Of Employment:

12 months as per school board policy

Skills and Abilities

Must be willing to learn and comply with district initiatives that involve technical and program skills.

Attendance:

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Must follow district policy on employee absences.

Hearing:

Must be able to hear a conversation in a noisy environment .

Language:

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  • Communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English.

Physical Demands:

Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move up to 65 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
