This position functions as a crew member performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks supporting the operation, maintenance, and repairs of city streets, signs, roadsides and medians. This includes tasks like patching potholes, repairs, maintaining storm drainage systems, general landscaping and beautification, and installing traffic signs and markings. The position will be involved in responding to emergency situations such as snow removal, street flooding, fallen trees, and other emergency response duties.

- Operate a variety of equipment in the repair and maintenance of city streets, sidewalks and right-of-way; shovel and spread asphalt base in patching, repairing and reconstructing streets, clean and fill road cracks with sealing material; apply traffic paint, thermoplastic or other roadway treatments.
- Use concrete cutting and breaking equipment, to operate a jackhammer, and pour and assist in finishing concrete, construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.
- Assist in the maintenance of traffic control systems including painting and striping city streets, crosswalks, signs and guard rails, and installing buttons and reflectors along streets and highways.
- Maintain street trees as needed to provide maximum visibility of traffic control systems.
- Install, repair and replace City signposts and signs.
- Operate a street sweeper cleaning city streets, gutters and alleyways along assigned routes; rake, vacuum or load fallen leaves into trucks to transport for offsite disposal.
- Operate construction equipment and power tools such as dump trucks, compressors, jack hammers, paint sprayers, sand blasters, concrete saws, sewer rodders, mowers, edgers and blowers, and maintain hand tools and assigned equipment in good working order.
- Install traffic control devices and perform traffic flagging functions in work zones to ensure a safe working environment according to established safety guidelines.
- Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
- Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required.
- Prepare reports regarding completed activities.
- Operate and maintain various hand and power tools, shovel, rake and post hole digger.
- Operate push mowers, edgers, weed eater, small riding mowers, chain saws and tree pruners.
- Operate a variety of vehicles and power equipment safely.
- Operate and maintain an assigned vehicle including fuel, oil and notification of repairs as needed.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner, provide information within the area of assignment; or forward to supervisor in efficient and timely manner.

- Operate a variety of equipment in the repair and maintenance of city parks, to water, mow, weed, trim, renovate and fertilize lawns, play areas and foot traffic areas, and maintain trees and landscaping.
- Perform metal fabrication duties as required for maintenance of playground and other equipment.
- Plant, water and maintain landscaped areas consisting of trees, flowers, shrubs and lawns.
- Trim and prune trees and shrubs; staking trees where necessary.
- Perform winterizing maintenance in parks, gardens, and city owned facilities.

- Perform regular inspection on storm drainage facilities, and operate power equipment to maintain drainage structures and culverts.
- Lay and align drainage culverts; and install, repair and replace culverts, catch basins and other drainage structures.
- Interpret city utility maps for identifying drainage facilities, including swales.
- Maintain swales and open ditches as required to maintain good system operation.
Knowledge of:

- Construction and maintenance materials, methods, and techniques for streets, street signs, parks and stormwater facilities.

- High School Diploma or G.E.D
- One (1) year of maintenance or construction experience is preferred.
- Possess a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the City.
- Possess or have ability to obtain within six (6) months the following:
- Washington State Dept. of Agriculture Public Operators License for Pesticide Application is desirable.
- Must successfully pass all phases of the pre-employment hiring process, including but not limited to, reference checks, a criminal background check, and medical evaluation, including a pre-employment drug screening.
