POSITION SUMMARY:
Skate Hosts are the friendly faces of the rink-creating a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for all skaters. This highly visible, guest-facing role is perfect for those who love the ice, enjoy helping others, and have great energy. Skate Hosts are responsible for monitoring the ice, assisting guests, and maintaining a positive atmosphere while ensuring all safety procedures are followed. This position is based outdoors at the iconic Winter Village at Bryant Park Ice Rink.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Actively monitor skaters on the ice and help maintain a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone
- Greet guests with warmth and enthusiasm; offer guidance and support as needed
- Provide exceptional guest service both on and off the ice
- Politely educate skaters about rink rules and encourage compliance to maintain a safe environment
- Alert management to any unsafe or potentially hazardous ice conditions
- Execute policies and procedures professionally and accurately
- Assist guests during incidents or falls and contact management when necessary
- Professionally resolve guest concerns and complaints and/or direct to appropriate Manager
- Monitor and assist in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the ice and surrounding area as needed, especially during inclement weather
- Assist with special events, including set-up, monitoring, and clean-up as required
- Participate in all training sessions and team member meetings to support team communication and alignment on goals
- Assist other departments as necessary
- Professionally execute all other duties as assigned by management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be willing to test for Fire Guard Certification
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be an intermediate-level skater or better
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays - No exceptions
- Comfortable skating for extended periods (4-8 hours per shift)
- Enthusiastic, reliable, and team-oriented, with excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain focus in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and stressful situations
- Must have excellent guest service skills
- Previous experience as a Skate Host or in a similar role is preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time, whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop, or bend into awkward positions while performing job functions
- Must be able to skate for extended periods
- Must be able to work in cold and inclement weather for prolonged periods of time
- Pushing and pulling heavy objects across the ice while skating backwards
