TITLE: Custodian IV
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: Under the direction of the building principal, is responsible for minor building maintenance and custodial activities in the school system; perform related duties as required.
To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate for the position of Head Custodian must demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Leadership and the ability to direct others in task completion.
- Outstanding attendance record with minimized absences.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule i.e., all shifts in order to associate oneself with the responsibilities of all custodial employees in the building and to allow for building supervision and special coverage of events.
- Ability to analyze the work to be completed on each shift and make assignments to staff to assure that the required work is completed.
- Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with staff, students, and public.
- Considerable knowledge of all phases of building maintenance and custodial services.
- Ability to repair equipment used in the cleaning operation of the school.
- Ability to write reports, maintain records and order supplies.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations with percentages in carrying out budgetary responsibilities and inventory control.
- Outstanding evaluations of past work experience as demonstrated by an evaluation that Exceeds Standards.
- This job is classified as requiring a medium-heavy work capacity.
- Pass the approved West Virginia Service Personnel Tests for Custodian.
- Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a head custodian.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR THE JOB:
- Plan and execute the school minor repair program.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of all custodial employees.
- Assist in planning for work during summer months.
- Supervise quality of work done by staff.
- Prepare work schedules that meet the needs of the school.
- Follow the Local School Day Custodian Work Schedule per week.
- Requisition materials and supplies, and prepare cost reports.
- Inspect work in progress and upon completion for conformance to instructions and acceptable work standards.
- Perform the tasks of a custodian.
- Promote the safety, health, and comfort fo the students and employees.
- Plan and execute a plan of maintenance for the school's lawn and snow removal equipment.
- Shovel snow and cut grass as assigned.
- Be able to operate the Computer HVAC System, Fire Alarm System, Water System and Sanitation Plant System.
- Is responsible to comply to the fire departments assistance with fire alarm signals and/or malfunctions.
- Is responsible for the security of the building.
- Is responsible to make the building accessible and secure after alumni and community tours/open houses of the school.
- Participate in in-service training as directed.
- Maintain positive work habits.
- Perform general duties and duties associated with special events efficiently and productively.
- Maintain and/or upgrade skills.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Principal.
