Job Description / Essential Elements:
MAINTANCE/CUSTODIAN/GROUNDSKEEPER
Class Definition: Classified
Under the direction of the site principal, this employee performs skilled and semiskilled
maintenance, custodial, and grounds work on the school grounds and
fields, and other related duties as assigned.
Reports to: School principal
Supervises: None
Requirement:Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicles Operator's
License
Qualifications:
At least two years experience in general maintenance, custodial and
grounds work.
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Knowledge of common hand tools and their proper maintenance, uses and
purposes. Basic carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing work, shop
practices, tools and equipment used in grounds work and lawn sprinkler system.
Ability to use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely. Perform
semi skilled work in one or more of the building trades. Work from sketches
blueprints and drawings.
Perform heavy manual labor.
Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work.
Carry out written and oral directions.
Performance Responsibilities:
Ability to work independently.
Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in one or more area of the trades,
maintenance or mechanical areas such as carpentry, electrical, electronics
equipment, heating and air conditioning, locksmithing, glazing, painting and
plumbing.
Assists with and handles all kinds of materials and equipment.
Uses a variety of hand tools.
Loads trucks with equipment and materials, and drives them to other
locations, as needed.
Assembles furniture and equipment.
Performs routine custodial work, such as trash removal and general
cleaning tasks, when a custodian is not present.
Performs heavy manual labor.
Cleans work area upon completion of jobs.
Services equipment.
Keeps records of work performed.
Mows grass areas, trims shrubs, hedges, and trees.
Sprays flowers and shrubs with insecticides, in compliance with state and
local regulations.
Waters lawns and fields.
Hoes, weeds, and rakes lawns.
Drags fields, as needed.
Operates power mowers, tractors, edgers and all other tools necessary in
the performance of grounds duties.
Operates school vehicles as needed.
Checks and repairs school sprinkler systems.
Performs general grounds clean-up including pickup of paper and trash in
grounds areas.
Assists in lining of fields for athletic events such as baseball, football,
track and setting up for special events.
Essential Job Functions:
Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents.
Able to conduct verbal conversation.
Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels).
Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk.
Able to sit or stand for sustained periods of time.
Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Able to carry up to 50 pounds.
Able to exhibit full range of motion for:
Shoulder external rotation and internal rotation
Shoulder abduction and adduction
Elbow flexion and extension
Shoulder extension and flexion
Back lateral flexion
Hip flexion and extension
Knee flexion
Able to operate equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Able to demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate machinery.
Physical:
Good physical condition, able to pass District physical.
Terms of employment:
12 months per year
Range 33 on the classified salary schedule
