JOB PURPOSE: To support the custodial services and needs at schools by preparing and moving freight, maintaining the physical upkeep and cleanliness of school grounds, buildings, and furnishings.

Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

1.Maintenance: May perform duties in assigned schools such as replacing lights & performing routine adjustment & maintenance of heating, electrical and plumbing systems. May perform periodic maintenance projects such as stripping and waxing floors and shampooing carpets. May assembly furniture and equipment and perform routine adjustment or maintenance of those items. Will perform light routine maintenance on district provided equipment, such as snow blower, tractor, or gator with a plow.

2.Freight Delivery: Performs weekly delivery of freight between assigned schools. Responsible to insure that freight is accounted for and properly handled. Must maintain a current driver's license, maintain a clean driving record, and be able to operate district vehicles to access all Head of the Bay Schools.

3.Cleaning: Performs occasional duties such as sweeping, mopping and vacuuming of floors. Performs regular cleaning and clearance of school entry ways. May clean assigned rooms, halls, offices and/or bathrooms. May dust or clean walls, furniture and fixtures and removes trash. Keeps school grounds tidy.

4.Grounds Maintenance: Responsible for snow removal with district provided equipment. Ability to work with site administrators to make schedule adjustments to accommodate inclement weather and snow removal, as needed. Clears and maintains safe walkways between buildings and student use areas and parking lots. May be required to do lawn maintenance and weed whacking around buildings.

5.Safety & Security: Maintains safe grounds at assigned schools by observing and correcting possible safety hazards such as wet floors, snow, or icy sidewalks. Helps ensure building security by being alert to unusual circumstances and by locking doors and windows as appropriate.

6.Teamwork: Performs other related duties as required or assigned, such as setting up tables for lunch or preparing facilities for special events. Works cooperatively with school employees, students and visitors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1.Requires physical ability to perform active, physically demanding duties, including operating handheld tools, drivable equipment, and a variety of outdoor power equipment such as gators, plows, and snow blowers.

2.Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment in various settings.

3.Requires basic knowledge of heating, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as general maintenance procedures for indoor and outdoor equipment.

4.Requires knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials, and procedures to perform cleaning tasks efficiently and effectively.

5.Requires ability to work independently with minimal supervision, with strong attention to detail and the ability to identify safety and security hazards.

6.Requires knowledge of OSHA regulations, fire and safety codes, and the ability to follow all applicable laws, procedures, and district policies.

7.Requires a willingness to perform a variety of job-related duties as needed, a strong sense of teamwork, and the ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with others.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general and technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, custodial team and maintenance department employees. Ability to maintain accurate records of freight and equipment maintenance.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds such as school freight. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
