BASIC FUNCTION:
Under supervision, the Custodian keeps assigned school facilities and office space clean, sanitary, safe and orderly. Does special cleaning periodically (scheduled) or upon request.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Reports needed repairs to immediate supervisor; lights gas-fired heating equipment, and operates thermostatic controls.
Move supplies, equipment and furniture as needed.
Completes cleaning assignments as required, opens and closes school as work schedule indicates.
Cleans floors with appropriate equipment and tools. Maintains these items in good working condition.
Maintains, cleans, dusts and polishes walls, restrooms, locker rooms, showers, classrooms, offices, furniture and equipment on a routine basis or as directed.
Assists in setting up classrooms or auditorium for special events or meetings.
Assists school personnel with heavy objects as needed.
Washes windows, polices metalwork, disposes of trash and assists in maintaining clean grounds.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
ABILITY TO:
Demonstrates the ability to select and use cleaning equipment, materials and tools with skill and efficiency. Basic knowledge of maintenance and repair of these items extremely helpful.
Demonstrates the ability to work effectively and efficiently with peers.
Demonstrates the ability to use custodial tools, supplies and equipment
Displays the ability to carry out oral and written directions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of custodial experience, including some experience in a lead capacity.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Indoor and outdoor environment.
Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.
