About Us:
Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for more than 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College's fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland's most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.
With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs.

This is a temporary position for 37.5 hours a week. Expected duration of position assignment is September 2025-February 2026. There is no expectation of continued employment beyond February 2026. This is an onsite position. The College reserves the right to end the assignment prior to February 2026 based on organizational needs.
JOB SUMMARY:
This is an onsite position.
The Groundskeeper participates in ensuring campus grounds are maintained in a safe and efficient manner through the execution of the following duties:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Participates in mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, planting, and mulching.
- Ensures grounds trash receptacles and fugitive trash are gathered and disposed of daily.
- Assists in snow removal activities.
- Performs inspection of equipment and vehicles prior to use. Coordinates maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Participates in all required safety and occupational training courses and meetings.
- Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
- Complies with all College rules and policies.
- Conducts preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
- Assists other departments dependent upon need.
- Performs jumpstart of vehicles for students, faculty and staff.
- Performs golf cart maintenance.
- Assists in various construction work.
- Assists in inventory/order parts, supplies.
- Assists in keeping vehicle maintenance records.
- Assists athletics in various duties.
- Assists in moving furniture, supplies to/from various offices, classrooms.
- Performs pest control.
- Assists in event setup/teardown.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Prior grounds experience preferred. Working experience in a college or university setting is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Skills/Training: Knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment and procedures.
- Proficiencies: Some proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook,
SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
- Scheduling Requirements: Ability to work flexible schedule during inclement weather, and special events that may require evening and Saturday and Sunday work hours.
- Shift: 7am-3pm
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift and move up to a maximum of 50 lbs. The physical activity of this position includes, but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, twisting and sitting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record. The worker will be subject to dust, noise, fumes, and odors. The worker will be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Safety equipment will be provided where needed and required to be worn or used.

The hourly rate for the position is $20/hr.
