Position Statement
A successful Environmental Technician is one who is meticulous and detailed oriented. One should have knowledge of the restricted and semi-restricted areas of the surgical department. The Environmental technician should adhere to the regulatory requirements for after a case and terminal cleaning in the operating rooms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Selects cleaning materials and supplies and prepares solutions according to policies and procedures. Maintains the stock and communicates when orders need to be placed by the Purchasing agent
- Cleans Surgical Services, including CSPD areas according to policies and procedures. This includes floors, walls, tile, toilets, hopper, furniture, equipment, doors, doorframes, stretchers, operating room beds, and vents. Maintains a record of compliance of regulatory cleaning set forth by the hospital schedule for cleaning supporting AORN and AAMI guidelines.
- Collects and disposes of blood and body fluids in a safe manner following Universal Blood Precautions
- Collects all waste (including hazardous waste) and sanitizes all garbage containers. This includes changing sharps containers, medication black boxes and sustainable solution containers or bags.
- Collects all soiled linen and delivers it to the Laundry Department. Distributes all clean linen to their assigned areas and replaces all linen on stretchers and OR beds.
- Cleans all patient areas following policies and procedures using Universal Blood Precautions. Cleans the OR in a systematic and efficient manner between cases, to have both clean OR'S and quick turnover times. The cleaning procedures are based on the AORN and AAMI guidelines.
- Cleans equipment and notifies the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse of any equipment needing repair or of any hazards. The technician also disinfects any equipment that needs to be sent to the Biomedical Engineer or the Maintenance department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and maintains the schedule of these tasks (cleaning schedules)
- Ability to climb ladder for changing of curtains or washing walls. Involves facilities when appropriate
- Standing most of the day, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs. (pulling and pushing equipment). Works with chemicals and infectious waste most of the day.

Pay Information:
$15.91-$19.52 hourly
