Title: Athletic Custodian

Reports To: Foreman

Duration: 12 Months

Purpose Statement

The job of Athletic Custodian is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the athletic program with specific responsibilities for inventorying and maintaining athletic equipment; and assisting student athletes and coaches during practices and/or events.

Essential Functions

Arranges furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparation for special events.

Assists Athletic Director, coaches, and officials during athletic events for the purpose of responding to equipment needs of student athletes.

Cleans assigned facilities (e.g. restrooms, laundry room, athletic locker rooms, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.

Launders uniforms and towels for the purpose of ensuring cleanliness.

Maintains uniforms and equipment (e.g. cleans, repairs, inventories, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring continued availability and proper use of items.

Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.

Monitors setup of venue of athletic event for the purpose of ensuring safety and efficient support service during event.

Oversees equipment distribution including receiving and verifying orders for the purpose of ensuring availability for use.

Performs summer maintenance (e.g. strip/wax floors, moves furniture, painting, etc.) for the purpose of completing and/or facilitating summer construction.

Prepares materials for transport to off-site athletic events for the purpose of ensuring availability for use.

Recommends equipment purchases for the purpose of replacing damaged equipment and/or meeting inventory requirements.

Repairs uniforms and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability for use.

Replenishes athletic locker rooms and rest room supplies (e.g. paper towels, soap, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring adequate quantities for daily use.

Other Functions

Attends meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: carrying trash containers in excess of 50 gallons, furniture and/or materials in excess of 50 pounds; preparing and maintaining accurate records; adhering to safety practices and procedures; handling hazardous materials; and operating a motor vehicles as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE is required to understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: general knowledge of athletics-related equipment.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: consistently attending work; working as part of a team; working extended hours; and displaying mechanical aptitude.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. Demonstrate professional work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills to promote a positive image of District 88. Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Education High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Job related experience is desired.
