MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  3. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in custodial or cleaning work preferred.
  4. Ability to properly use chemicals, equipment, and work processes used in cleaning and routine maintenance.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working and supervisory relationships with others.
  6. Ability to develop, follow-through, and supervise short- and long-term plans.
  7. Ability to learn and follow emergency procedures.
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor

JOB GOAL

The Head Custodian, in partnership with the Principal and Cleaning Coordinator, will provide day to day supervision and task assignment to all building cleaning staff to ensure the assigned facilities are clean and ready for school each day, as well as performing day porter duties.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Keep all buildings and outside areas neat and clean at all times.
  2. Perform routine, scheduled cleaning functions such as trash removal, sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, washing windows, cleaning restrooms, and restocking supplies.
  3. Shovel, plow, sweep and maintain steps, walks, driveways, parking areas, and playground areas as needed.
  4. Promote positive relationships with staff, students, and visitors.
  5. Perform any assigned special project work or seasonal work.
  6. Conduct an ongoing evaluation of maintenance, upkeep and repair needs, and report to Principal/Supervisor.
  7. Respond to staff requests, which may include setting up rooms for meetings or class functions, moving furniture/equipment, and assisting with deliveries.
  8. Perform minor maintenance tasks.
  9. Work with the Principal/Supervisor to develop schedules for individual custodians so as to provide suitable custodial services.
  10. Keep building locked and secure when not in use for school functions.
  11. Report all safety hazards to principal/supervisor.
  12. Participate actively in all professional development training.
  13. Comply with all laws and safety procedures in regard to the use, storage, and disposal of chemicals, trash, rubbish and waste.
  14. Maintain a reliable attendance record.
  15. Know and follow safety rules and procedures associated with the responsibilities of the job.
  16. Possess ability to perform the required physical demands.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting objects weighing up to 75 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

WORK CONDITIONS

Medium to high degree of discomfort due to exposure to temperature, fumes, dirt, dust, noise, and cleaning chemicals.
