Groundskeeper

Performs duties involved in landscaping, planting and maintaining the outside grounds of the hospital.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Landscapes hospital grounds.
• Prepares lawns and beds for planting.
• Selects and obtains plants, trees, seed, and fertilizers used in planting.
• Plants lawns and beds.
• Maintains hospital grounds.
• Mows, edges, fertilizes, and irrigates lawn areas.
• Cultivates, replants, fertilizes, and irrigates beds.
• Prunes, fertilizes, and irrigates trees and shrubs.
• Collects trash and other debris and disposes of it in a collection area.
• Operates and maintains grounds keeping equipment.
• Operates tractor, pickup truck, and mowers to perform grounds keeping duties.
• Performs minor maintenance on equipment and advises
• Maintenance mechanic of major problems.
• Requests and stocks grounds keeping supplies.
• Assists in determining fertilizer needs and stock levels.
• Recommends small grounds keeping tools needed and controls their storage and use.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS

• Works outside in temperature extremes and during inclement weather.
• Assists in maintenance and housekeeping as needed and any other duties given by Supervisor.
• Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Hospital District.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
• Personal Job-Related Skills: Ability to drive, operate, and assist in the maintenance of grounds keeping equipment.
• Licensure, Registry or Certification: Valid Drivers License required.
• Prior Work Experience: One year of grounds keeping required.
• Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of walking and standing. Moderate pushing, pulling, and carrying with lifting to 50 pounds. Some bending, stooping, and reaching is required. The ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.
