Job Title: Housekeeper

Department: Facilities

Position Type: Full- (40 hours per week) or Part-Time (less than 30 hours per week)

Reports to: Head Housekeeper

Position Overview:

The Housekeeper at the University of Valley Forge is responsible for facilitating the mission of the University of Valley Forge by providing housekeeping services (cleaning, deep cleaning, trash removal, set-up) of university buildings. This position is responsible for ensuring that campus buildings remain clean, safe, and visually appealing for students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

This position requires the ability to perform a wide range of housekeeping duties, and includes supporting the maintenance and housekeeping teams.

  • Housekeeping Duties

  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry spaces.

  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture.

  • Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors.

  • Vacuum or shampoo carpets.

  • Clean hallways, stairwells, and common areas.

  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, blinds, doors, and walls.

  • Use various chemicals, tools, and equipment needed for housekeeping tasks.

  • Set up and tear down tables, chairs, or other furniture as requested.

  • Assistance with Special Events

  • Provide or assist with event setup and cleanup for campus events.

  • Provide or assist in outdoor venue setup and cleanup for university events and gatherings.

  • Cleaning & Trash Removal

  • Pick up trash and debris.

  • Ensure waste and recycling bins are emptied and properly maintained.

  • Occasional Duties

  • Use ladders when required for work assignments.

  • Remove snow and debris as needed.

  • Attend to emergencies as needed.

  • Support for Maintenance & Groundskeeping Teams

  • Assist the maintenance team with general upkeep and repairs around the campus when requested.

  • Provide support to the groundskeeping team by assisting with outdoor areas when requested.

  • Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure all housekeeping activities are performed in accordance with safety regulations and university policies.

  • Communication and Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff, groundskeeping staff, administrative personnel, and residence life staff to coordinate housekeeping efforts.

  • Communicate effectively with university departments about any housekeeping project status and timelines.

  • Other

  • Housekeepers will be required to attend departmental and occasional all-university meetings.

Skills and Knowledge

  • A valid driver's license and able to be approved to drive university vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of chemicals, tools, and equipment used in housekeeping tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Work Environment

Work primarily indoors, usually in moderate temperatures but occasionally in very hot or very cold temperatures. Physical activity is required for the majority of the work day, including walking, lifting, bending, carrying, moving, and operating cleaning tools and equipment. Some outdoor work is required. Driving university vehicles on or off campus is required. Occasional weekends and evenings are required for special events or when addressing emergencies.

Pay is commensurate with experience and ability.
