About the job
Based at the Mandarin Oriental New York within the Food and Beverage Department in New York the The Bar Bartender maintains all Bar environment and equipment clean and tidy, assists guests when they have questions about the menus/wine list/liquor and cocktails, and takes order from guests, anticipates guests' needs and addresses them accordingly.
The Bar Bartender reports to the Bar Manager/Food and Beverage Manager.
As The Bar Bartender, you will responsible for the following duties:
- Support company's philosophy and company culture through the use of Pillars of Legendary Quality Experiences on a daily basis to ensure Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement
- Support company's philosophy and company culture through the use of Departmental Legendary Quality Experiences on a daily basis to ensure Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement
- Support company's philosophy and company culture through the use of Guiding Principles and D.E.L.I.G.H.T as part of ensuring Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement.
- Follow all Forbes and LQE Standards of service at all times
- Follow TIPS standards for service of alcoholic beverages
- Retrieves completed food and/or beverage orders from kitchen or bar; confirms accuracy of order and delivers to guests with appropriate condiments. When serving beverages, abides by all state, federal and corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests.
- Greets guests in a friendly and courteous manner and explains any specials and/or bar promotions.
- Records the details of the order from guests, repeating as necessary, to check for accuracy.
- Preparing drinks in accordance with the guest's order and recipe concepts.
- Responsible for mixing drinks, serving drinks, serving food, cleaning bar, setting up and breaking down the bar
- Responsible for batching cocktails, preparing garnishes and syrups, preparing, serving, and replenishing as needed, bar snacks
- Opening bottles as necessary
- In charge of restocking ice at the bar throughout the shift
- Submitting daily requisitions at the end of each shift
- Organizing incoming stock based on the FIFO (First In, First Out) method
- Replenishes beverages as necessary and checks with guest for overall satisfaction
- Presents the check to the guest when asked and collects and processes payment using POS system
- The Bartender has a solid understanding of the bar's concept and identity in order to fully embody the experience offered to guests
- Handle, process and settle all cash payments and transactions at the Bar.
- Make sure that all silver and glasses are wiped and spotless
- Enter all sales in POS without errors. Double check list of items before "sending". Print a new check after each additional order is entered.
- Make sure that all product served are accounted for on the final bill before presenting it.
- Maintain cleanliness of the bar area at all times and well stocked with supplies and beverages including:
straightening inside and outside of bar area continuously, including bar chairs
cleaning counters, floors, shelves and refrigerators; remove trash throughout shift and at end of shift
checking coolers and shelves to ensure proper stocking of beer, wine, liquor and all beverages
stocking bar with ice as needed
checking for supplies such as sugar, salt, stir sticks, straws, napkins as per specified in side work list.
Requisition of additional supplies as needed
cutting fruit and garnishes
retrieving special garnishes from kitchen
restocking bar with clean glasses
retrieve supplies at beginning of shift from C2 and other areas as required
retrieve wines and other beverages from wine racks and other storage areas
- Verify each guest satisfaction during each course or beverage served
- Anticipate guest needs, as to where guests will never have to ask for anything
- To wish each and every guest a warm farewell and thank them for coming
- At the end of the shift deliver all checks and reports to the appropriate place according to rules
- Perform all opening duties to set up for successful service and closing duties to set up for next day service
- Work in a team effort with other Bar Bartenders and Bar Servers to ensure legendary quality experience for all internal and external guests.
As The Bar Bartender, we expect from you:

- Have a minimum of 3 years' experience in similar position in luxury setting.
- Have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.
- Have excellent communication and organization skills.
- Maintain a clean and healthy personal hygiene and grooming.
- Be able to consistently delight and satisfy our guest.
- Have the ability to handle guest requests in a detailed manner.

Pay and Benefits:
- Pay $30.50 to $40.67 hourly- commensurate with experience and the IWA guidelines
- A competitive benefits package offered through the Employee Benefits Fund
