Summary:

Reviews, researches, and resolves telephone and written communication inquiries regarding third party and private-pay patient accounts. Performs financial counseling and initiates payment plans for private-pay claims. Provides Care Assurance/Charity patient application assistance.

Minimum Education:

a. High school level course work in English grammar, composition, and basic mathematics

Minimum Work Experience:

a. Three (3) years experience in healthcare billing and/or follow-up or hospital customer service which has provided comprehensive knowledge of healthcare billing and/or follow-up, insurance payment procedures and processing, and basic telephone etiquette.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

a. Light typing

b. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with those contacted in the course of work

c. Ability to establish productive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

d. Ability to make good decisions and think independently

e. Ability to work productively as part of a team to reach decisions and solve problems

f. Good analytical skills necessary for problem solving and patient account resolution

g. Working knowledge of hospital patient accounting procedures, computers, calculators, and other equipment used in the Patient Financial Services area

h. Diverse knowledge and experience in utilizing standardized PC software

i. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, and financial information

j. Ability to utilize the telephone

k. Population-Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
