Our Servers and Bartenders are friendly, outgoing, and possess phenomenal communication skills. They are also able to describe and pair our amazing Surly beers with both confidence and humility. They are team players and will buss tables, run food and help in other areas as needed.

  • Salary is $15.57/hr. The position will be eligible to earn tips after completion of the training period. The position will also earn safe/sick time per state requirements.
  • Weekend availability is a requirement for this position

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Customer Service is priority #1. Take care of the Customer: What do they want? Get it for them. Be accurate, be polite, be enthusiastic and be professional.
  • Take care of your fellow Surly Employees: What do they want? Get it for them. Be accurate, be polite, be enthusiastic and be professional.
  • Welcome guests quickly, say hi and let them know who you are. Be responsive and helpful. If you can't help them right away - alert someone who can. If you can't answer a question - find someone who can.
  • Be comfortable with pairing and describing details of all of our beer, from what menu items would be complementary to the ABV to the hops and malts used, to the history of the beer and/or style.
  • Your attitude is everything, it can make or break a shift or fellow employees as well as the experience for the customer.
  • Maintain a spotless and sanitized work environment.
  • Our stewards are required to run and buss tables while maintaining exceptional service to everyone in their section.
  • Bring potentially systematic problems that require immediate action to the attention of the Front of House Manager and follow the rule of three.
  • If you see something, do something about it. Don't push things off to tomorrow if we can set ourselves up for today.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Front of House Manager.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and spotless bar no matter the volume.
  • Exceptional beer-pouring skills consistently to ensure maximum profit margins.
  • Communicate any changes, 86'd items or guest issues between a radio system with all employees including Pizza BOH and FOH, Beer Hall BOH and FOH.
  • Be on time, alert, clean and ready for pre-shift or your shift.
  • Able to talk about the history of Surly, the MSP Facility, and the surrounding area with reasonable knowledge.
  • Maintain spotless dining room floor and seating areas. Double check that flatware and glassware are immaculate (flatware should be clean and without spots; glassware should have beautiful lacing when serving beer).
  • Pay attention and adhere to TIPS principles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required. One to three years serving or bartending experience preferred.
  • TIPS certification strongly preferred. If you don't have it, we will provide this training.
  • Strong knowledge of beer styles, local and national craft beers, and Surly beers required.
  • An outgoing personality and exemplary customer service orientation are required.
  • Fantastic multitasker who can maintain friendly composure amid stress and high volume.
  • Cash handling experience required.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team essential.
  • Able to perform physical work in a loud environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on the restaurant's needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Might need to lift heavy objects, work in adverse climates and work long hours or be available on weekends and holidays depending on the demand and duties of the day.
