The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is actively looking to hire a Park Maintenance Worker who will engage in semi-skilled manual labor focused on the construction and upkeep of facilities within a State Park. This role is essential for ensuring that the park remains a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors, involving tasks such as repairing trails, maintaining park structures, and assisting with landscaping efforts. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in semi-skilled tasks independently or provide assistance to a skilled worker in the routine maintenance and construction activities within a State Park. Your responsibilities will include repairing buildings and facilities by utilizing tools from various trades such as carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing. You will also be involved in the operation and upkeep of vehicles and equipment essential for park maintenance, ensuring they are clean and well-maintained. Additionally, you will construct basic forms for cement work, mixing and applying cement, finishing surfaces with masonry tools, and laying stone and block walls. Ground maintenance is another key aspect of your role, which involves mowing grass, cutting weeds, gathering litter, and performing various tasks such as loading materials into trucks, cleaning grills, and maintaining paved areas. You will also be responsible for site preparation, seeding new turf, and caring for trees and shrubs. Painting and staining park buildings, signs, and gates will be part of your duties, along with general housekeeping tasks that include cleaning restrooms and making minor repairs like replacing light bulbs. Safety and proper usage of all equipment, power tools, and hand tools will be paramount in your work. Furthermore, you will assist park visitors by providing information in a courteous manner, complete necessary documentation such as daily logs and fuel records, and operate a two-way radio following established protocols. Your role may also encompass additional related tasks as required.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2025 until November 2025 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2026.
  • Work shifts/days vary, will work 5 days/37.5 hrs. per week to include weekends and holidays if needed

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.

Other Requirements:
