Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide valet and remote parking options and to retrieve patients, staff and visitor's vehicles ensuring the optimum use of available parking inventory through proper management of parking facilities. This position's responsibility is to provide a convenient and stress-free parking experience for patients, visitors, and staff by managing their vehicles, allowing them to quickly access the medical building entrances without having to search for a parking spot, and providing beneficial parking options for those with mobility issues, time constraints, and limited parking availability while aiming to minimize the stress of parking so individuals can focus on their healthcare needs.

Reduced stress: eliminating the need to navigate a large parking lot and find a spot.

Improved access: provide direct access to the hospital entrance, minimizing walking distance.

Efficient traffic flow: manage traffic flow and parking efficiently, reducing congestion and streamlining arrival and departure times.

Positive first impression: provide a welcoming valet service contributing to a positive patient experience from the moment they arrive.

Accessibility for all: assist individuals with disabilities or special needs by providing assistance with getting in and out of their car.

Parking Representative is responsible for providing a positive first and last impression to patients, visitors, and employees, when they arrive and leave the medical center. Parking Representatives must have strong analytical and navigational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple pick-ups and drop-offs on a schedule under continuously changing circumstances. A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record is required.

Please note vehicle management operations (valet services) are 24/7/365, including holidays. Parking Representative work schedules are not fixed weekly schedules. You will be required to be available to work on holidays and weekends on a regular basis. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

High School diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Cashiering and/or direct customer service experience.

Knowledge of: trac laws, regulations, and procedures (including the rules of the road, right of way, etc); departmental rules and regulations; how to safely operate various transit vehicles; procedures used to secure various transit vehicles.

Skill in: safely driving various transit vehicles in heavy trac and under various environmental conditions (such as rain, nightfall, and fog); using mirrors to view objects behind and to the sides of the driver; operating wheelchair lift platforms.

Ability to fuel vehicles of all sizes using diesel, unleaded gas, and compressed natural gas fuels.

Reading skills to understand and policies and procedures and other communication, printed and handwritten in English Writing skills to legibly and clearly convey information in English.

Skills in oral communication sucient to convey clear and concise information to the public and staff and to respond to questions without confusion or rambling.

Effectively communicate with passengers, including interacting with irate and agitated people; effectively communicate and interact with Supervisors, co-workers, Central Control, UCDH ocials, and emergency personnel.

Ability to accept and follow written and oral instructions from a variety of individuals and the capacity for long term memory of such instructions.

Ability to work with a diverse staff of patients, staff, faculty, and the public.

Patience to communicate with individuals who have limited English speaking skills.

Ability to read and understand written materials (such as training materials, departmental rules, DMV Handbook, etc.); follow written driving directions (such as Route Sheets); accurately complete departmental forms and reports; read maps; read, interpret, and respond to trac signs and signals; perform basic mathematical computations (including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division); read and interpret mathematical information from tables and charts (such as time schedules).

Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, courtesy, and empathy with others (e.g., grieving, angry, anxious, or upset patients, family and visitors, etc.)

Ability to listen attentively to problems or complaints and to refer problems to the appropriate source.

Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the vehicles operated. Possess basic mechanical aptitude to perform routine vehicle diagnosis.

Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Ability to perform all job-related responsibilities without causing injury to self and others.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to act independently and make accurate decisions with exceptional focus on attention to detail.

Ability to control flows of traffic and valet lanes.

High degree of attention required preventing injury to others and damaging to vehicles when operating vehicles to and from location.

Ability to demonstrate exceptional service and interpersonal skills that are interpreted as positive and customer service oriented.

Ability to calculate and balance numbers rapidly and accurately.

Understand and respond appropriately to basic customer and employee inquiries.

Must maintain confidentiality of patients, visitors, staff and guests.

Ability to operate equipment in assigned area.

Preferred Qualifications

One year valet, parking industry or professional driving experience

Practical experience with a variety of manual and automatic transmissions.

Knowledge of California Vehicle Code 21113a and UCD Traffic and Parking code.

Thorough knowledge of all hospital streets and parking areas and the various parking instructions and exceptions as they to staff, patients and visitors.

Ability to use personal computer and generate reports.

Troubleshooting skills to repair or communicate with individuals assigned to service equipment.

Ability to operate a variety of power and hand tools.

Technology Integration: Leverages advanced technologies to enhance customer experience, including mobile applications for real-time parking availability and shuttle tracking. Incorporates digital payment systems for seamless transactions to improve user experience and efficiency.

Safety and Security: Prioritizes the safety and security of all users in parking and transportation areas through surveillance, regular security patrolling, and well-lit facilities.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
