Status: Level I, General Staff, Supervised by the Executive Chef
Responsibilities:
DISHWASHING
- Thoroughly wash dishes, utensils and all items used by Prepared Foods Dept for preparing recipes in a timely manner.
- Report to Executive Chef when dishwashing supplies are running low (sanitizers, soap, etc.)
- Stack like items in an organized and safe manner, avoiding potentially hazardous situations (stacking too high, unstable stacking, etc.)
FOOD HANDLING AND PREP
- Maintain proper cooling, storage, and labeling procedures.
- Follow proper procedure for handling items used to prepare raw meat as to avoid cross contamination (as per Ag and markets).
- Complete food preparation tasks as assigned: vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads, garnishes, etc.
DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
- See that unsaleable items are properly disposed of. Keeping accurate shrinkage records.
- Ensure that dish area, slicer, shelves and storage areas are clean, orderly, and meet health standards.
- Remove trash promptly; sweep floor as needed.
- Participate in inventory counts.
- Ensure maintenance of department equipment and notify manager if equipment breaks.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
- Work as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all.
- Knowledgeable about all Deli products.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow GreenStar's safety rules.
- Assist other employees in safety needs.
- Report unsafe equipment and conditions immediately.
- Participate in safety training programs.
- Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES
- Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
- Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
- Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
- Adhere to scheduled shifts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Communication effective interpersonal communication with team members.
- Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
- Experience working in food service, restaurant, or deli is a plus.
- Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment and kitchen tools.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and sanitation requirements in deli operations.
- Self-Driven/Motivated throughout shift.
- Knowledge or interest in learning about natural foods, local vendors, local farms.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
