Purpose: To wash dishes, prepare deli meats and cheese, prepare juice bar vegetables, prepare vegetables, breads, and garnishes for Prepared Foods team. To create a hospitable environment that welcomes coworkers, customers, owners, and members of the community.

Status: Level I, General Staff, Supervised by the Executive Chef

Responsibilities:

DISHWASHING

  • Thoroughly wash dishes, utensils and all items used by Prepared Foods Dept for preparing recipes in a timely manner.
  • Report to Executive Chef when dishwashing supplies are running low (sanitizers, soap, etc.)
  • Stack like items in an organized and safe manner, avoiding potentially hazardous situations (stacking too high, unstable stacking, etc.)

FOOD HANDLING AND PREP

  • Maintain proper cooling, storage, and labeling procedures.
  • Follow proper procedure for handling items used to prepare raw meat as to avoid cross contamination (as per Ag and markets).
  • Complete food preparation tasks as assigned: vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads, garnishes, etc.

DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE

  • See that unsaleable items are properly disposed of. Keeping accurate shrinkage records.
  • Ensure that dish area, slicer, shelves and storage areas are clean, orderly, and meet health standards.
  • Remove trash promptly; sweep floor as needed.
  • Participate in inventory counts.
  • Ensure maintenance of department equipment and notify manager if equipment breaks.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
  • Work as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all.
  • Knowledgeable about all Deli products.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow GreenStar's safety rules.
  • Assist other employees in safety needs.
  • Report unsafe equipment and conditions immediately.
  • Participate in safety training programs.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES

  • Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
  • Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
  • Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Communication effective interpersonal communication with team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Experience working in food service, restaurant, or deli is a plus.
  • Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment and kitchen tools.
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and sanitation requirements in deli operations.
  • Self-Driven/Motivated throughout shift.
  • Knowledge or interest in learning about natural foods, local vendors, local farms.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
