2. Position Overview:
As Hotel Engineering Manager, you ensure the continuous operation, safety, and preservation of one of America’s most iconic luxury hotels. Balancing modern engineering practices with the demands of Beaux-Arts preservation, you lead all building systems, oversee compliance and sustainability initiatives, and directly support guest-facing service needs with discretion, timeliness, and a guest-first mindset.
3. Key Responsibilities
Property Systems Management
- Lead all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, and fire/life safety systems to ensure full operational functionality 24/7.
- Maintain performance of elevators, generators, lighting, building automation, and emergency power systems.
- Perform daily building inspections, including guest rooms, event spaces, and public areas, ensuring system uptime and code compliance.
Preventive Maintenance & Preservation Oversight
- Manage and execute preventive maintenance plans for both modern infrastructure and original architectural features (e.g. stained glass, marble, plasterwork).
- Monitor wear on historic elements; coordinate restoration efforts in collaboration with preservation architects and consultants.
- Maintain documentation for preservation protocols in alignment with landmark status and Historic Hotels of America standards.
Capital Planning & Vendor Coordination
- Develop and implement lifecycle capital improvement strategies in collaboration with finance and ownership groups.
- Schedule, supervise, and evaluate outside contractors, tradespeople, and vendor teams to ensure quality and timely execution.
- Liaise with internal departments to ensure minimal guest or operational disruption during repairs or upgrades.
Guest-Facing Support & Service Response
- Respond swiftly and discreetly to guest concerns related to climate control, lighting, plumbing, and in-room technical systems.
- Communicate clearly with guests and hotel leadership when issues arise—offering informed, respectful, and reassuring guidance.
- Provide light interpretive information to curious guests about the building’s original systems and restored elements when appropriate.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Coordinate daily with front desk, housekeeping, culinary, events, and F&B teams to support VIP arrivals, weddings, boardroom setups, and private dining events.
- Align with Executive Chef and banquet team on culinary equipment support and service timing for Michelin-caliber dining.
- Support housekeeping and stewarding teams with timely repair of guestroom and back-of-house issues.
Compliance, Safety & Documentation
- Ensure strict adherence to OSHA, NFPA, local fire codes, and historic preservation standards.
- Maintain and update all safety and compliance documentation, inspections, certifications, and incident reports.
- Train engineering and night teams on emergency response procedures, lockout/tagout, and hazard communication standards.
Brand Alignment & Strategic Initiatives
- Support sustainability goals (e.g. LED retrofits, LEED-conscious practices) while preserving architectural integrity.
- Contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives with discretion, accuracy, and full alignment to service and brand standards.
- Act as a cultural steward of the building—ensuring engineering excellence supports luxury hospitality at every guest touchpoint.
4. Qualifications & Requirements
Required Experience & Technical Proficiency
- Minimum 5 years of engineering leadership within luxury hospitality; 2+ years in a historic or landmark property preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC, MEP systems, automation controls, backup power systems, and building operations software.
- Demonstrated experience in capital improvement planning, vendor management, and preventive maintenance systems.
- Skilled in emergency protocols, guest service interfacing, and hands-on technical troubleshooting.
- Proficient in English (verbal/written); able to draft clear documentation and respond diplomatically to guests and vendors.
- Resident in Nashville, TN, or available for full on-site presence with flexible scheduling for weekends, holidays, and high-occupancy periods.

Preferred Extras
- Industry certifications: LEED AP, CHC, IFMA, NEBB, or equivalent.
- Experience with landmark restoration, especially within National Historic Landmark buildings.
- Conversational proficiency in Spanish, French, or another second language to aid in vendor or team communication.
- Familiarity with hospitality tech organizations (e.g. HTNG, IHEEM, or preservation societies).
- Exposure to culinary or Michelin-level dining operations for kitchen equipment and utility readiness.
