Training
- Orientation: Alternatives provides thorough orientation and training for all new staff. You can expect a one-week orientation, where you will learn all about Alternatives and be prepared for your role. This first week is scheduled from 9 AM to 5 PM at our Alternatives Training Center.
To be a successful Kitchen Coordinator -
Must Haves:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- ServSafe Certified or ability to become certified within one month of hire.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency (MS Office).
- Ability to pass a physical and work in a correctional kitchen environment.
Preferred:
- Six months or more of experience in food services involving food preparation for large groups or line cooking experience.
- Correctional Experience.
- Experience working with offender populations.
What Will You Do in This Position?
The Kitchen Coordinator shall assist in the preparation and delivery of meals to Alternatives Inc. residents and personnel. Meal service is required three times per day, every day. Food services requires the ability to be physically active. The Kitchen Coordinator must be able to work with a variety of personality types and be able to supervise, motivate, and train CAP/Inmate workers.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean kitchen, dining, and storage areas regularly and thoroughly.
- Assist with systematic, sanitary, and secure storage of stock.
- Assist with preparing and serving meals in accordance with routine schedule.
- Help with special luncheons and events at facility.
- Assist with training, directing, and supervising Kitchen Inmate Workers in the Culinary Arts Program.

- Increased Accrual with Tenure: Accrual rates increase at 3 years, 5 years, and every subsequent 5-year mark, up to 25+ years.
- Pro Rata Basis: Accrual rates for employees working 20-30 hours per week are on a pro rata basis.
