POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinic Receptionist/Medical Assistant role is to provide support to the Internal Medicine Residency Clinic in a medical-clerical administrative capacity.

Minimum Education

Required High School Diploma

Minimum Work Experience

None; Preferred 3 Years

Required Licenses/Certifications

Certified Medical Assistant

Effective written and verbal communication and negotiating skills with all levels of internal and external customers. Must demonstrate positive relationship building with co-workers, medical staff, patients, and other members of the clinical care team. Must demonstrate the ability to effectively implement changes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Required to read paper and electronic medical records.

Required to key information using a computer monitor and keyboard.

Due to the nature of healthcare services, it may become necessary to work extended hours or other variations of the usual shift or schedule to ensure adequate care of patients and to maintain service to the community.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

6. Welcomes patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring inquiries.

7. Optimizes patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.

8. Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival, reviewing service delivery compared to schedule, and reminding providers of service delays.

9. Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties, answering patient questions, and maintaining the reception area.

10. Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate (written and oral) with individuals and groups of various backgrounds and educational levels in high stress situations.

11. Demonstrates ability to manage multiple, changing priorities in an effective and organized manner, under stressful demands while maintaining exceptional customer service.

12. Obtains complete and accurate demographic, insurance and financial data to complete registration.

13. Protects patient rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.

14. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

15. Updates and maintains patient database according to established procedures.

16. Completes and balances all daily transaction paperwork.

17. Maintains an open line of communication with all team members.

18. Maintains consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures.

19. Answer telephones, assist with follow up appointments.

20. Patient check in and out.

21. Collect copayments and counter payments.

22. Eligibility and benefits.

23. Assures completion of required forms.

24. Scan and index documents into system(s).

25. Account for daily encounters.

26. Balance cash drawer.

27. Transmission of documents to all external entities.

28. Prepare paperwork for daily clinic.

29. Manage outstanding patient balances and collect as patients flow through clinic environment.

30. Support physician and co-workers in general administrative tasks.

31. Greet and room patient in a professional and courteous manner.

32. Obtain vital signs.

33. Obtain history/physical, reason for visit.

34. Reconcile medication(s) with patient.

35. Assist physician/provider in patient interaction and procedures.

36. Patient treatment room preparation and maintenance.

37. Data entry of demographic and clinical information into Cerner.

38. Communicating lab and procedure results to patients.

39. Review and Clarification of patient consent forms with patient prior to patient signing forms.

40. Call/process prescriptions to pharmacy as applicable.

41. Ability to provide and explain instructions for patient procedure preparation, prescription, and other directives needed with regard to patient education.

42. Preparation of chart information for physician as needed/requested.

43. Knowledge and proper demonstration of how to safely and properly draw and administer injections.

44. Inventory maintenance.

45. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

46. Coordinate referrals as applicable.
