Job Title: Custodian, Utility Day
Pay Program: Support Staff, Non-Exempt
Pay Range: Range 10 $21.30 - $23.76
Work Year: Year-Round (260 Days / 8 Hours)
Reports to: Custodial Supervisor
Direct Reports: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Summary
Working under the general direction of the Custodial Supervisor of designee, the Utility Day Custodian provides flooring maintenance, custodial support, and equipment repair across District schools and buildings. This role assists with gym and wood floor upkeep, performs backup custodial coverage, and responds to daytime facility needs such as spills, plumbing issues and setup/cleanup requests. In addition, this position supports the maintenance and repair of all custodial equipment, ensuring all tools and machines remain in working order. Responsibilities vary daily.

Job Responsibility Description
Flooring Maintenance and Support
Assist the Equipment Repair and Gym Floor Specialist with gym, wood, and other flooring upkeep.
Perform cleaning, screening, tacking with mineral spirits, refinishing, and repairs to maintain floor quality.
Participate in resurfacing, preservation, and installation of flooring throughout District schools and buildings.
Custodial Support and Backup Coverage
Complete duties as assigned through work orders, special project requests, or backup coverage for absent custodians.
Perform a variety of temporary assignments ranging from daily coverage to specific projects or repairs.
Serve as part of the designated backup team, with workload varying based on service requests.
Daytime Custodial Coverage and Support
Provide day time custodial coverage, assisting schools as needed with cleaning, sanitation, light maintenance, building monitoring and security.
Respond to custodial concerns and requests such as plumbing issues, liquid spills, trash removal, window washing, and setup/cleanup needs as needed.
Custodial Equipment Maintenance and Repair
Assist with preventative maintenance and repairs for custodial equipment, including floor machines, extractors, wet/dry vacuums, auto/non-auto scrubbers, carpet dryers, etc.
Provide specialized support for gym floor maintenance equipment.
Other Duties
Additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned as needed/requested.
Education and Experience
Acceptable demonstration of acceptable education and/or experience will be at the sole discretion of the District.
High school diploma, completion of G.E.D., or equivalent vocational school required
Minimum of one-year prior experience in custodial, maintenance, or related trades required
Preference for prior experience with small motor repair and/or resurfacing of wood gym floors
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
Criminal background check required for hire
Valid Colorado driver's license or valid Colorado identification required
Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and meet the Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) insurability standards at the time of hire and throughout employment
Must be able to lift 50 pounds - Lift test required at time of hire
Preference given for any certifications related to working on small electric motors and pumps.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Operating knowledge of equipment used in custodial equipment including gym floor applicator, floor buffer, water vacuum, extractor, and auto scrubbers
Ability to interpret and implement OSHA's Safety & Data Sheet protocols and regulations
Thorough understanding of custodial methods, processes, procedures, chemicals, and equipment
Familiarity with building operations, district scheduling systems and security procedures
Knowledge of and experience with small electric motor and general electronics repair
Knowledge of and experience with hand tools and basic power tools
Knowledge of wood gym floor refinishing and preservation required within one year of hire
Ability to be adaptable and flexible with collaborative critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
Strong customer service skills, with the ability to provide support in a professional and approachable manner
Commitment to handling sensitive and confidential information with the highest ethical standards
Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff and various stakeholders
Ability to lead, communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
Ability to follow applicable federal, state, local laws and Board of Education policies, in addition to building and department procedures
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
Ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions in a timely manner
Ability to use de-escalation skills to diffuse and manage stressful and fluid situations
Ability to be adaptable and flexible with collaborative critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
Strong customer service skills, with the ability to provide support in a professional and approachable manner
Well-developed ability to work both independently and interdependently within a team and with minimal direction and/or supervision
Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals, Microsoft Office Suite, as well as typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machine, email, etc.
