The Department of Parks and Recreation,Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Divisionis looking for a dependableSwimming Pool Custodian to help keep our pools clean, safe, and swim-ready every day! We currently have one full-time, permanent vacancy located in Kaneohe. This position, under the direct supervision of the Park Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, performs a variety of duties in the operation and maintenance of a swimming pool, with responsibility for the condition and appearance of the pool, its mechanical systems, and surrounding grounds.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operating and maintaining swimming pool filtration and chlorination equipment, including performing water quality testing to determine chlorine residue and water alkalinity/acidity;
- Cleaning the pool by scrubbing the bottom and sides, using a water vacuum cleaner, and backwashing filters to remove impurities;
- Performing minor electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs related to pool equipment;
- Maintaining cleanliness and upkeep of pool apron, dressing rooms, bathrooms, chlorinating and filtering rooms, and related facilities;
- Caring for and maintaining courts, grounds, parking lots, and walkways by cleaning, planting, watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping, raking, removing debris, and performing general upkeep;
- Monitoring chemical supplies, requesting additional materials as needed, and managing bulk pool supplies and empty containers; and
- Performing other related duties.
Special Work Conditions: Work schedule is 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with varying days off. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Will serve as a disaster response worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in custodial, groundskeeping and/or simple maintenance work, including the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
Key Competencies and Skills Needed:
- Knowledge of operating principles of small water pumping systems and appurtenant equipment.
- Knowledge of methods and practices of filtering and purifying swimming pool water.
- Knowledge of methods and practices used in the minor repair and maintenance of small water pumps
- Ability to recognize signs of mechanical wear in pump and filtration equipment and make minor repairs
- Ability to make prescribed colorometric tests of water for determining alkalinity-acidity balance.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges.
- Ability tounderstand and follow oral and written instructions.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Valid automobile/Type 3 driver's license, prior to appointment.
Obtain and maintain from the City's Health Services Branch a Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) test, prior to appointment.
