Duties
Help
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the preparation and prompt serving of meals to children in the Child Development Center.
- Formulates cyclic menus for use to conform to USDA Standards.
- Checks food during and after preparation for conformance, eye appeal and proper seasoning.
- Adjusts standardized recipes for servings required or special needs, and performs yield testing, ensuring food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Performs duties which include the following: roasts, broils, bakes, fries, boils, steams and stews meats, fish and poultry.
- Prepares soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces and puddings without the use of packaged mixes.
- Prepares cold food platters such as ham, salmon and roast beef platters, and salads.
- Prepares special foods in conjunction with parent parties and parent advisory meals.
- Prepares entire meals which requires coordinating the cooking of several items with different cooking times and characteristics. Plans the cooking process to produce complete meals on time and at the proper temperature.
- Ensures equipment is cleaned and maintained and reports any damage or breakdowns to the supervisor.
Physical Effort: Continual standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance.

- This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, including a NACI Tier 1 background investigation and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
- This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain, maintain, and provide evidence of current immunizations this includes annual influenza vaccinations and be free of all communicable diseases.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
- Must have experience in and knowledge of food preparation principles and characteristics of food, and of planning processes to ensure entire meals are prepared and cooked on time.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions and be able to use a variety of kitchen equipment.
- Progressively responsible experience in quantity cooking, preparation of a variety of food item appropriate for children, quality and cost control of food preparation, inventory and storage procedures for food supplies and equipment, and procurement of food supplies and equipment.
- Must be able to perform yield testing to determine portion cost and to adjust ingredients in standardized recipes.
- Experience must have been gained in a grill, snack bar restaurant or similar food activity
- Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 40 pounds.
- Must satisfactorily complete food handlers training, physical, TB Tine, CPR/First Aid, and installation, state, and national criminal background checks.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
Additional information
- Child Development Program (CDP) will provide 100% child care fee discount for all CYP staff for the first child enrolled in a full-time or regular part-time DAF CDP. A 37% discount will apply for any additional children of staff. Please contact local NAF HR Office for additional information.
- Referral and Recruitment Incentive Awards are available to be paid to eligible CY employees until the closing date of this announcement. A signed service agreement may be required. Referral: $250.00 for an additional applicant referral who is selected for hire and stays on staff for at least 6 months. Recruitment: $1,000 for each new staff member after completion of 6 months on staff; signed service agreement required.
