SUMMARY
Position requires the performance of skilled and some unskilled work in the cleaning and maintenance of the District’s facilities and grounds. Hours and days of work may vary according to needs. Employee will be required to perform routine custodial duties such as, but not limited to, maintaining cleanliness of washrooms, program rooms, offices, boiler rooms and storage rooms; move and set up equipment for daily building activities; clean tables and chairs; empty trash; accept small deliveries and load/unload small trucks and cars; clean and wax floors; either make minor repairs or report problems to supervisor; ;inspecting walks around facilities daily and performing routine tasks including, but not limited to, picking up litter and broken glass, checking playground surfaces for debris; shovel snow; paint surfaces as directed; operate hand tools as needed; safely handle cleaning solvents, waxes, etc.
DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Performs daily routine custodial maintenance duties in the upkeep of Park District buildings, including, but not limited to, cleaning washrooms, cleaning floors, wiping off tables and chairs, setting up equipment for daily building activities, dusting, and emptying trash.
2. Cleans and washes floors, walls and windows.
3. Walks around building grounds on a daily basis and performs routine tasks necessary to maintain a clean, safe outdoor environment including, but not limited to, picking up litter and broken glass, checking playground surfaces for debris, emptying trash containers serving exterior of buildings.
4. Reports to supervisor any items that need to be remedied.
5. Accepts small deliveries and loads/unloads cars and small trucks.
6. Empties trash containers (indoor/outdoor).
7. Strips and waxes floors.
8. Moves furniture and equipment as required.
9. Requests supplies from supervisor and maintain storage closets stocked and in a neat and safe state.
10. Performs building/grounds inspections as required and maintains complete records of such.
11. Ensures that all equipment and supplies are stored within buildings in a neat and safe state.
12. Performs minor building repairs, and reports work done to supervisor. Report any major repairs needed to supervisor.
13. Reports all building/grounds vandalism to supervisor immediately.
14. Changes light bulbs
15. Sweeps walkways when needed, and shovels snow when necessary.
16. Operates sweepers, scrubbers, and hand and power tools, and any other maintenance equipment needed to perform duties successfully.
17. Completes assigned work in a timely manner.
18. Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
19. Performs all tasks in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, safety rules, and all other work rules.
20. Additional functions may be required as assigned by supervisor.

2. Employee must work around general population / park patrons in public areas, and present him/her self in a manner that represents the Park District in a positive manner.

4. Employee should be able to work under conditions which would expose him/her to high and/or confined places.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
1. Employee is exposed to chemicals (i.e., cleaning materials, solvents, petroleum products, etc.).
2. Employee is exposed to outside weather, including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain, ice, and wind.
3. Protective clothing will be required according to tasks performed, such as; earplugs, ear covers, safety goggles/glasses, protective gloves, hardhat, back brace, painting and protective suits.
4. Employee is exposed to mud, dirt, dust, and decaying organic matter.

Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS
Employee must possess some knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures; some knowledge of the use and care of cleaning equipment; some knowledge of pertinent safety precautions; ability to learn routine tasks quickly; ability to perform routine manual cleaning and maintenance tasks; good knowledge and skill in the use and maintenance of common hand tools ; ability to safely operate various pieces of maintenance equipment; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees; ability to perform required duties with initiative, good judgment, accuracy, persistence, integrity, dependability, tact, and courtesy. Good physical condition required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or G.E.D. Certificate preferred; one to two years experience in general custodial / grounds maintenance duties; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
