Custodian

General Statement: The Reuben H. Fleet Science Centers Custodian supports the Fleet Mission and Visitor Experience Philosophy by m aintaining and cleaning the building premises including carpets, lighting, hardware, etc.

Reports to: Custodial Supervisor and/or Director of Engineering and Facilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

1. Use carpet extractor.
2. Use high speed spin bonnet carpet cleaning machine.
3. Sweep, mop, and buff all hard surface floors.
4. Clean and service restrooms.
5. Clean glass, empty all trash containers, and pick up trash on floor in assigned locations.
6. Vacuum lobby, science center, theater, lecture hall, and staff offices.
7. Be willing to work evening shifts, some holidays and weekends.
8. Responsible to be knowledgeable of safety and emergency plan manual procedures.
9. Additional duties as assigned by supervisor and/or manager.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES ARE INTENDED TO DESCRIBE THOSE FUNCTIONS THAT ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS JOB. AN INCUMBENT MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM ALL OF THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES OUTLINED ABOVE.

Tools and equipment used to perform this position: Broom, vacuum, janitorial supply cart, buffer, cleaning supplies, including but not limited to, bleach, window cleaner, towels.

Supervision, direction, or guidance provided for this position: Position performs routine duties without direct supervision. Supervision required to set priorities, train on new responsibilities, and monitor work.

Physical Requirements of this Position:
Medium Work: Position involves ability to frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds of force and occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects.

Business Location Presence: This position requires physical presence at the business location during all assigned working hours in order to adequately perform all duties.

Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:

• One year experience in a position which involved customer service and routine cleaning.
• Knowledge of Balboa Park, San Diego Attractions, and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center extremely helpful.
• Ability to communicate to patrons and staff.
• Ability to work independently.
