About the Role:

The Union Janitor at the Sterling Heights location plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment that supports the overall efficiency and productivity of the facility. This position ensures that all assigned areas, including production floors, restrooms, break rooms, and common spaces, are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized according to established standards. The janitor contributes to workplace safety by promptly addressing spills, debris, and other hazards, thereby reducing the risk of accidents. Working as part of a unionized team, the janitor collaborates with colleagues and supervisors to uphold the plant's cleanliness protocols and comply with union guidelines. Ultimately, this role supports the plant's operational success by fostering a hygienic and welcoming environment for all employees and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, with the ability to follow safety guidelines.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as required.
  • Eligibility to work in a unionized environment and comply with union membership requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous janitorial or custodial experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and protocols.
  • Experience operating industrial cleaning equipment.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and supervisors.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate cleaning equipment and machinery safely and efficiently, including floor scrubbers and buffers.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to union rules and plant policies while collaborating with team members to complete daily cleaning schedules.
