General Position Summary

Performs a variety of manual tasks in the maintenance of the County streets and roadways; may be assigned to any division in the Public Works Department.

Qualifications

  • Education, Certification, & Experience

  • Previous experience in the use of machinery and equipment such as light automotive equipment and light to heavy trucks.

  • Knowledge of the operation of hand and power tools; i.e., drills, hammers, hand saws, chain saws, power saws; wrenches, shovels, rakes, etc.

  • Commercial Driver's License with Manual Transmission Certification (Prior to employment)

  • Flagging Certificate (Prior to employment)

  • First Aid Certification (May be obtained after employment)

  • CPR Certification (May be obtained after employment)

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Salary and Benefits

This is an hourly, non-exempt position, with a wage range of $23.80 - $30.11 per hour. The pay range listed here reflects the FULL pay range for this position for the current fiscal year. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold; extreme heat and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
