As the first point of contact for visitors and staff at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL, the Escort/Receptionist plays a vital role in ensuring a secure, welcoming, and efficient environment. This position requires a professional demeanor, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to safety and confidentiality. The Escort/Receptionist will facilitate visitor access, coordinate with security personnel, and provide administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations within a dynamic research setting.
Anticipated Start Date: January 2026, contingent upon contract award.
JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
The Security Escort/Receptionist roles will perform the following duties:
Security Escort
Control and monitor assigned uncleared personnel, always maintaining visual contact.
Control and oversee designated entrance and exit points for the ORNL SCIF Facilities.
Ensure all safety and security procedures are followed, and halt work for any deviations.
Assist the ORNL Special Security Office (SSO) on special projects to achieve all mission objectives.
Maintain a consistent work schedule during the ORNL SCIF (Building 5300S) core business hours of 7 am to 5 pm EST, unless otherwise directed by the ORNL SSO.
Security Receptionist
Control and monitor entrance and exit for ORNL SCIF (Building 5300S).
Assume responsibility and perform administrative and clerical office functions according to DOE policy, while maintaining a positive and professional atmosphere.
Receive, assist, and track all visitors to the ORNL SCIF (Building 5300S), including badge issuance and sign-in procedures.
Check all personnel entering the ORNL SCIF (Building 5300S) to ensure no prohibited items are brought into the facility (i.e., "All clear"). Also, verify exit procedures by querying personnel leaving the facility (i.e., "Badged out").
Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls and emails at the front desk and maintain correspondence in a responsive and courteous manner.
Distribute information as appropriate or refer inquiries to others.
Assist the ORNL Special Security Office (SSO) on special projects to help meet all mission objectives.
Security Receptionists are authorized to perform "dual-hatted" duties, including Security Escort responsibilities needed to meet additional escort requests.
Maintain a consistent work schedule during the ORNL SCIF (Building 5300S) core business hours of 7 am to 5 pm EST, unless otherwise directed by the ORNL SSO.
Security Hospitality
Assist the Company with executing administrative/clerical hospitality functions according to DOE policy, while maintaining a positive atmosphere in a professional manner.
Assist with escorting roles within the ORNL SCIF (Building 5300S), including but not limited to badge issuance, escort support, and administrative procedures.
Assist the Company's administrative support and hosts with event setup, catering, and event clean up.
Disseminates information as appropriate or refers to others.
Maintain a consistent work schedule during the ORNL SCIF (Building 5300S) core business hours of 7 am to 5 pm EST, unless otherwise directed by the ORNL SSO.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have or the ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, access Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and successfully complete a limited scope and/or counterintelligence polygraph in accordance with U.S. Government (USG) orders and directives
Extensive experience with security-related functions
Extensive experience with administrative and clerical functions
Familiarity with U.S. Government (USG) security practices and adaptability to evolving security policies and environments.
Exceptional customer service skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure or within tight deadlines
Attention to detail, organized, and efficient
Ability to handle multiple visitors simultaneously
Ability to work well under pressure
Ability to work well under pressure or in difficult circumstances
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required
Ability to complete required trainings
