Pay Range: ($22.63-$27.38)*

Job Summary: The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the hospital buildings in a livable and workable condition, including heat, light, power, air conditioning, and other environmental factors. This role involves repairing, reconstructing, and sometimes constructing the hospital’s physical plant and its contents, including major additions. The employee performs a variety of general, mechanical, and preventative maintenance tasks, as well as inspections, servicing, repair, and overhaul of hospital equipment and facilities.

This position requires work in a shop area and both the interior and exterior of the hospital in all weather conditions. Tasks may involve standing, using both hands, climbing ladders, stooping, and kneeling. Intermittent carrying of equipment and strenuous physical exertion are sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials. Workers may lift and move materials up to 40 lbs. unassisted, and occasionally move heavier items with assistance from lifting devices or other workers. Employees may be exposed to moderate or high noise levels from machinery, high temperatures from boiler plant operations, and cold weather. There is also a possible exposure to infectious diseases within the hospital environment.

Employees in this position are subject to a 24-hour call-in for emergencies. Rotation into evening shifts, weekend shifts, and on-call shifts are also required.

Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma is required. An Associate's Degree in Building Maintenance or a related field, and/or completion of a technical school program is preferred.

• Experience: A minimum of five years of documented, progressively complex experience in several maintenance trades such as plumbing, HVAC, boiler systems, or electrical systems is required.

• Certifications/Licensing: A current, valid motor vehicle Driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.

• Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet expectations are required.

  • Knowledge of physical plant operations is required.

  • The ability to read blueprints, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and pneumatic control schematics and diagrams is required.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with customers (e.g., patient care providers, patients, visitors, management, etc.) is required.
