The following job functions have been determined as essential to the position of Dietary Aide at Pleasant View Home. Work load demands may require tasks to overlap and the frequency of the tasks may vary.
- Prepare and serve food in accordance with sanitary regulations and PVH’s established policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with department personnel, as well as other staff within the facility, to help ensure that food services can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Help to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, attentiveness towards others and a positive environment throughout the department.
- Assist in serving meals on a timely basis and in accordance with established portion control procedures. This includes:
- May assist the cooks in preparing meals.
- Make only authorized substitutions.
- Assist in checking diet trays before distribution.
- Set up meal trays, food carts, dining room service areas, etc., as instructed.
- Deliver food carts and trays to designated areas.
- Serve food in dining room as instructed.
- Assist in food preparation for special meals, meetings, parties and other events.
- Work with the facility's dietitian, if requested, and implement recommended changes as required.
- Participate and assist in departmental projects that may become necessary.
- Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.
- Cooperate with the dietary team to ensure that established dietary procedures, safety regulations and infection prevention and control policies and procedures are followed.
- Inform the Food Services Director of any complaints and grievances, and assist with the necessary oral or written report.
- Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
- Assist with the inventory and proper storage of food and supplies. Clean and properly arrange stored food and supplies.
- Assist in daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures. This may include the following as assigned:
- Clean work tables, meat blocks, refrigerators, freezers, etc.
- Sweep and mop floors as directed.
- Carry soiled utensils, dinnerware, to the washing area.
- Return clean utensils to proper storage areas.
- Wash and clean utensils as directed.
- Carry out garbage and keep work areas clean, dry and free of hazardous equipment, supplies, etc.
- Perform dishwashing/cleaning procedures when requested.
- Ensure that utensils and dinnerware are readily available for the next meal.
- Remove food trays from carts and dining rooms, and ensure they are ready for the next meal.
- Prepare and deliver snacks, as instructed.
- Wrap silverware.
- Cooperate with the dietary team to ensure a clean and safe working environment by following procedures for maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Food Service Director immediately.
- Report all accidents or incidents according to PVH policies.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and/or classes as directed.
The following job functions have been determined to be of marginal priority or non-essential to the position of Dietary Aide at Pleasant View Home, Inc.
- Properly set up appropriate "Caution" safety signs before performing Dietary Aid Tasks.
- Assure that work assignment areas are clean and that kitchen equipment, tolls, supplies, etc. are properly stored during work periods, as well as before leaving the area for breaks, meals and end-of-work-day.
- Assist others in lifting heavy kitchen equipment, supplies, etc., (with or without reasonable accommodations), as directed or requested.
- Report scarcity of Dietary Aid supplies.
- Clean kitchen equipment, carts, etc..
- Perform terminal cleaning procedures.
- Participate in and assist in departmental studies and projects as directed.
- Assist with completion of appropriate forms and reports.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Skills Required
The following skills are needed to perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation. A Dietary Aide should have the ability to:
- Read, write and speak the English language.
- Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agency personnel and the general public.
- Be a minimum of (16) years of age.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, appearance of work areas, and regular inspection of food service areas for sanitation order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties.
- Have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to interact with residents based on the maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
- Be willing to incorporate new methods and principles into existing practices.
