Job Responsibilities

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital (HPH), 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.

The Office of Mental Health's mission is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

As the Food Service Specialist II, you will work under general supervision performing routine or standardized work in preparation and cooking of food of regular and therapeutically modified diets. You will give general guidance to Food Service Specialist I. You will be knowledgeable of the behaviors and levels of functioning of the varied ages and populations served at HPH. You will successfully complete competencies and be able to independently perform tasks as required by regulatory bodies and survey inspections.

Responsibilities for the Food Service Specialist II:

  • Prepare and cook food/nourishments for regular and therapeutically modified diets for patients and employees.
  • Prep food items for anticipated menu portion needs.
  • Inspect food products for quality assurance and monitor food for preparation, using standardized, tested recipes.
  • Supervise the arrangement of meal serving lines and record food temperatures. Operates serving line when indicated.
  • Follow and complete sanitation procedures in food service areas.
  • Maintain clinical competency by mastering required mandatory and non-mandatory in-services or training, such as MAPS/MANDT, CPR and SCEIS Learning Modules.
  • May instruct/demonstrate correct use and care of equipment to new employees according to the needs of their particular position.
  • Assume duties of Food Service Supervisor II when assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • There are no minimum training and experience requirements for this class.

Additional Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, and bending.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
  • Ability to see and hear.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • High school diploma and experience in quantity and quality cooking or in a bakery.
  • ServeSafe certification.

  • Have some knowledge of food preparation and serving techniques.
