Job Description: Head CookPosition Overview:
The Head Cook is responsible for helping organize, preparing, and serving nutritious meals to students in accordance with established guidelines and regulations under the direction of the Food Service Director. This role involves assisting in daily kitchen operations, providing direction to kitchen staff, ensuring food safety standards are met, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. The Head Cook plays a critical role in contributing to the overall health and well-being of our students by providing high-quality meals that support their academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
Kitchen Management:
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and serving.
- Provide direction to kitchen staff under the direction of the Food Service Director, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain inventory of food and supplies, placing orders as needed to ensure the kitchen is well-stocked under the direction of the Food Service Director.
Food Safety and Sanitation:
- Ensure all food is prepared and served in a safe and sanitary manner, complying with health and safety regulations under the direction of the Food Service Director
- Regularly inspect kitchen facilities and equipment to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning under the direction of the Food Service Director
- Monitor that food safety protocols, including temperature control, proper storage, and allergen management are followed
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Food Service Director to coordinate meal schedules and accommodate special dietary needs.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with trends in school nutrition and food service management
Qualifications:
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Food manager certificated required. Experience preferred but will train and help with certification needs.
- Prepare, prep, and heat meals.
- Maintain record keeping, organize staff with daily duties.
- Valid Driver License
- Knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing food and the care and use of cooking utensils and equipment.
- Knowledge of food values and nutrition.
- Ability to do simple cooking on a large scale, simple cleaning and food service tasks and follow oral and written instructions.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time, during the school year following the board approved school calendar
