COOK - CAFE SALUD - PART TIME SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Cook must be Bilingual (English/Spanish). The primary focus of this position is to prepare nutritious meals for a Spanish-speaking congregate program and to maintain kitchen and equipment cleanliness/sanitation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare food and cook in accordance with standardized recipes.

Adhere and refer to Food Service standards according to Serv Safe and Delaware Food Code.

Cook food in quantities according to production sheets and standardized recipes.

Maintain portion control with all menu items.

Assist with the packaging of congregate meals.

Store leftovers according to proper protocol.

Clean up as necessary according to proper sanitation techniques.

Proper use of safety and sanitation procedures such as temperature monitoring, clean equipment, proper storage of leftover food, and proper food-holding techniques.

Proper use of hair nets, beard guards, hand washing, aprons, gloves, and other sanitation techniques.

Responsible for the cleaning of any equipment used daily.

Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned or required.

Work with Food Service Manager to order food & supplies for menus.

Serve as the backup to the Center Director during their absence, fully trained in all aspects of the Center Director's role to ensure seamless operations and leadership continuity

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Minimum requirements for this position are:

Bilingual (English & Spanish)

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

One year of cooking experience required. Knowledge of proper food handling techniques required.

Knowledge of and ability to safely operate kitchen equipment such as knives, slicer, mixer, ovens.

Ability to lift or exert force up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing over 20 pounds.

Ability to follow basic cooking routines.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Ability to perform basic math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, including working with fractions and percentages. Ability to perform these operations using common units of weights and volume.

REPORTING: This position reports to the Food Service Manager.

PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: Most duties and functions will be performed in a kitchen although local travel to other CHEER locations is required to support programs and services as required in those locations.

WORK HOURS: Tuesdays and Wednesdays: Noon - 8:30 PM and one flexible 8 hour day (8:00 AM to 4:30 PM) with a 30-minute meal break. Subject to change. Flexibility to work occasional extended hours, evenings, and weekends as necessary.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time, nonexempt, 24 hrs/week.
