Position: Food Service Specialist - Wells Junior High School

Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or such alternative qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.

Special Knowledge/Skills: Candidate must possess strong organizational skills, the ability to work with others and handle multiple activities in a fast paced environment.

Experience: Three (3) years of previous experience in food preparation and/or food service is desirable.

Responsibilities include but not limted to:

• Assist in the preparation of food according to a planned and tested menu, uses uniform recipes and determines if the finished product is of the best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served. Assist in the preparation of main dishes, soups, vegetables, etc. as required.
• Assist in the ordering, receipt, storage, recordkeeping, preparation and distribution of all foods to include ala carte items.
• Assist in the preparation of food portions, preparation of the cafeteria serving counter, and service.
• Serve students/staff from the cafeteria serving counter.
• Perform cashier and/or recordkeeping functions as assigned.
• Assist in the maintenance of a sufficient food inventory. Assist with the maintenance of a perpetual inventory.
• Report to the Director any faulty or inferior quality food which is received.
• Confer with the Director on the use of leftovers.
• Assist and instructs kitchen personnel in the safe, proper and efficient use of all kitchen equipment.
• Remove used dishes and assists in the cleaning of counters, tables and furnishings in the dining area.
• Assist in the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment and the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, pots/pans, silverware and equipment.
• Maintains the trash and garbage collection area in a neat/sanitary fashion.

Successful candidate must obtain a Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) certificate from the Maine Department of Education.
