Position Title: Custodian

Location: Columbia Elementary School
Days/Hrs: 8 hours per day, Swing Shift approximately 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm, 45 work days, 1 holiday (LT leave replacement through 10/24/25)
Start Date: 9/1/25
Pay Schedule: 24-25 schedule, 2025 - 2026 TBD
Benefits: Position is not eligible for health benefits, but is eligible for retirement through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).
Job Summary: Custodians contribute to student learning by creating a safe, clean, and healthy environment for students. The work assists toward the accomplishment of the mission of the Woodland Public Schools of preparing students for career, life, and college so that they can become a responsible and successful citizen. Work is performed under the direction of the Facilities and Safety Director.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Working knowledge of custodial practices
- Understanding of safety protocol associated with various cleaners and chemicals
- Understanding of the use and need for PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
- Understand the usage and location of SDS (system data sheets)
- Working knowledge of basic computer skills
- Ability to work around children and present a positive role model
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and visitors to the district
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisors, and to coordinate work with others
- Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure pertinent to the job
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow
- Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts
- Regular and punctual attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
Other Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds assisted

Preferred:
- Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance
- Previous experience with hand tools and power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower, and hand tools
- One year of job-related experience working with students in an educational setting

During vacation periods or days when students and staff are not in the building, work with custodial/maintenance staff on mid-year and/or end-of-year cleaning, maintenance, and other assigned tasks

Comply with the school district's regulations and the local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and recyclable materials
Regularly communicate with the Director of Maintenance and building administrators for things needing to be done (check the mailbox daily for messages)
Know the location of and how to operate all emergency shut-off equipment and security systems
Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
