The Groundskeeper's basic function is to assist the Lead Groundskeeper to enhance and maintain plant life and the overall grounds of all Waubonsee Community College campuses. This position reports directly to the Grounds Supervisor and the Director of Buildings, Grounds and Events. Maintains appearance of existing grounds and develops plans for additional landscape or natural areas in order to enhance the visual appearance of the college campuses. Will maintain care of all plant life on campus, in order to maintain overall appearance and health of all Waubonsee Community College campuses' plant life. Works as a participant in the snow removal plan. Coordinate with the Grounds Supervisor and perform specialized treatments and applications on all outdoor surfaces. Coordinate, design and supervise the care of decorative plantings and landscape beds. Diagnose problems with landscape areas, grounds equipment and recommend corrective measures. Assist with the coordination of contractors on grounds projects. Operate large power mowers, edgers, hand tools, and college vehicles associated with grounds maintenance and improvements. Perform maintenance and repair on all Buildings and Grounds equipment. Assist with special events for set ups and removal of exterior signage, cones and crowd control. Assist with controlled burns. Perform additional duties as may be assigned by the Grounds Supervisor and Director of Buildings, Grounds and Events Minimum Qualifications Associates degree plus two years of experience in horticulture or landscape related field. Three years of experience in heavy equipment operation. Possess or be willing to obtain pesticide applicator's license. Valid Illinois Driver's License. Possess or be willing to obtain a CDL Class B License. Preferred Requirements: CDL Class B License with airbrake. Commercial snow removal experience. Two Years of training in horticulture or landscaping program. Previous experience in an educational environment. Environmental Conditions and Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrain types. Ability to do heavy manual labor and lift in excess of 80 lbs. Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb ladders, lift and stoop for prolonged periods of time.
