Job Title: Deli Team Member
Reports to: Prepared Foods Managers
Status: Non-Exempt, Union Classification Level 1
Starting Pay: $19.00 per hour
Wage Range: $19.00 - $22.57 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY
As a Front-of-House Deli Team Member, you'll be the friendly face of our deli, providing excellent customer service while setting up and maintaining the deli cases, hot bar, and salad bar. You'll prepare espresso drinks, stock Grab & Go products, and support both customer-facing and back-of-house tasks in a dynamic, cooperative environment. This role requires a customer-focused, fast-paced, and team-oriented approach, with a passion for fresh food and community connection.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service & Teamwork
- Provide welcoming, efficient, and knowledgeable customer service.
- Answer questions about deli products, ingredients, and current promotions.
- Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers and supervisors.
Daily Operations
- Open and set up the deli service case, hot bar, and salad bar according to daily checklists.
- Prepare and serve espresso drinks to standard, including opening and closing the espresso station.
- Use meat slicer to slice deli meats to customer or production specifications.
- Maintain clean, sanitary, and well-organized service areas throughout the shift.
- Refill and rotate products in the Grab & Go case, hot bar, and salad bar to ensure freshness and visual appeal.
- Ensure accurate product signage and labeling.
- Assist with receiving deliveries and restocking supplies.
- Stay informed about deli promotions and featured items.
Additional Responsibilities
- Follow all food safety guidelines and workplace safety practices.
- Support back-of-house production, prep, or dishwashing as needed during slower customer periods.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support smooth department operations.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to provide friendly and welcoming customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to maintain a positive, professional demeanor with customers and coworkers.
- Ability to meet expectations of regular, predictable attendance.
- Strong commitment to food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.
- Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and accurately while multitasking.
- Willingness and ability to learn espresso preparation, deli procedures, and product knowledge.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Valid Washington State food handler card (or ability to obtain before starting).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
- Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and lifting.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Manual dexterity for handling kitchen tools, meat slicer, espresso machines, and labeling.
- Comfortable working in varied temperature environments (coolers, ovens, warmers).
- Tolerance for repetitive tasks and moderate noise levels.
- Ability to safely use and tolerate exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to follow visual and verbal instructions in a fast-paced setting.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
