TITLE : District Parent and Community Engagement Liaison and Special Events Coordinator
LOCATION: Public Information Office
SALARY: Grade 79 ($5207/month - $7607/month)
MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months
REPORTS TO: Chief of Communications
JOB GOAL: The District Parent and Community Engagement Liaison and Special Events Coordinator supports meaningful connections among families, schools, and the broader community to enhance student achievement and promote district initiatives. This position works closely with school advisory councils, booster clubs, and parent-teacher organizations to strengthen family engagement and community partnerships. In addition, the coordinator plans and manages district-wide special events that showcase success and build positive community relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, communications, public relations, social work, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in parent/community engagement, event coordination, or related work.
- Experience working with schools, nonprofit organizations, or public agencies preferred.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills to work effectively with families, school staff, and community partners.
- Knowledge of family engagement strategies, advisory councils, and parent leadership structures (e.g., booster clubs, PTOs).
- Ability to plan and manage multiple projects and events with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with technology and communication tools, including Microsoft Office, Google, and social media platforms.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support parent meetings and district events.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish/English or other) preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as liaison between the district and school-based advisory councils, booster clubs, and PTOs/PTAs, providing guidance resources, and support to strengthen parent leadership and involvement.
- Support principals and school staff in building strong parent and community partnerships that enhance student learning and school climate.
- Facilitate parent workshops, trainings, and information sessions on topics such as academic support, volunteerism, and community resources.
- Coordinate partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and faith-based groups to expand opportunities and resources for students and families.
- Plan, organize, and oversee district-wide and community events, including recognition ceremonies, family engagement events, student leadership events, and staff appreciation events.
- Manage all aspects of event planning, including scheduling, logistics, communication, budgeting, and coordination with vendors and volunteers.
- Develop promotional materials, social media posts, and district communications to encourage parent and community involvement.
- Collect and analyze feedback to improve future events and management efforts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
- Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
- Must be able and willing to travel to schools and various work sites.
