Job Details Cafe Vivant, an upcoming restaurant in downtown Menlo Park, is hiring for a full time Sommelier. The ideal candidate will have experience as a floor somm in Michelin level cuisine, with an emphasis on hand selling and a robust knowledge of service in addition to beverage knowledge. This person will act not only as a pillar of wine service, but a leader on the floor in addition to the GM and Beverage Director. Certifications through CMS or WSET are strongly preferred, but we are happy to educate the right person who is excited to reach those goals. Cafe Vivant will be an a la carte restaurant helmed by Chef Jared Wentworth, who has run some of Chicago's most acclaimed restaurants. The menu will be focusing on produce and livestock sourced from our own farm in Pescadero. We will also be working with local farmers in the Santa Cruz area. There will be a small scale tasting menu element to dinner service as well, where the person in this role will be executing pairings. The wine list will feature 2000+ SKUs of wines from benchmark old world and California producers with a number of mature offerings from the Santa Cruz Mountains. The Sommelier will be working under the direction of our Beverage Director and will be expected to help lead in all aspects of nightly service, in addition to daily cellar duties.
