Position Summary
The Cook 1 position is responsible for preparing and serving meals while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and sanitation. This role involves collaborating with the food service team to follow recipes, adapt meals for special diets, and ensure the proper use and care of kitchen equipment. Flexibility and teamwork are essential, as duties may vary based on the needs of the school and special events, including occasional weekend work.

Salary Information
Starting salary will be $19.05 per hour (approximately $39,624 per year). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. This position is in pay schedule 03, range 10. A one-year probationary period will be required.
Employees in this position at the WI School for the Deaf (WSD) are eligible for an additional $1.00 per hour add-on for fluency in American Sign Language (ASL), contingent upon achieving an ASL Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) rating of 2 or higher.

Job Details
Special notes: The results from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies if they become available at either school.
Headquarters: Depending on the position, employees may be headquartered at either the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD), 309 West Walworth Avenue, Delavan, or the Wisconsin School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI), 1700 West State Street, Janesville. Reimbursement for travel to or from the employee's headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.).
Pre-hire requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire. A TB screen will be required prior to start.
Legal authorization: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.
