Groundskeeper & Facilities Specialist

The Valley Park School District is seeking a Full-time District Groundskeeper & Facilities Specialist . This position plays a critical role in keeping our campuses beautiful, safe, and welcoming. The Groundskeeper & Facilities Specialist is primarily responsible for the care and upkeep of district grounds, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, and maintaining outdoor spaces. This role ensures our facilities reflect the pride of the Valley Park community while also supporting the overall maintenance and cleanliness of district buildings.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Consistently maintains the district’s grounds in a safe and attractive condition, with a focus on mowing, trimming, edging, and overall landscape care.
• Mows lawns and open spaces; edges sidewalks, parking lots, fences, and play areas.
• Trims and prunes trees, hedges, bushes, and shrubs to maintain a neat appearance and safe visibility.
• Plants, fertilizes, waters, and maintains grass, flowers, trees, shrubs, and other landscaping.
• Weeds and cares for flower beds and landscaped areas to enhance curb appeal.
• Operates and maintains hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers, sprayers, and related grounds machinery.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, and parking areas to provide safe access before, during, and after school hours.
• Supports the Director of Facilities with general maintenance tasks and assists with custodial needs as required.
• Participates in required District in-service training and adheres to safety standards.
• Understands and supports the Mission and Core Values of the District.
• Performs other related grounds, maintenance, and custodial duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
  
  

Job Requirements:

• Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs/ladders, and operating equipment for extended periods.
• Must be able to manually lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Requires a full range of motion in all major joints and the ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Must work with fertilizers, chemicals, solvents, and related materials safely.
• Must maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m., with flexibility as needed.

Qualifications:

• Groundskeeping, landscaping, or maintenance experience preferred; school grounds experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain grounds equipment safely and effectively.
• Stable work history and proven reliability.
• Demonstrates initiative, teamwork, and enthusiasm for maintaining high standards.
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.

Compensation: Hourly Rate: $17.50-$20.00, starting pay based on experience.

FLSA status: Non-Exempt Work Calendar: 260-day calendar

As a condition of employment, all new hires will be required to complete an FBI, State Highway Patrol, and Children’s Division of the Department of Social Services background check.
