What your day will look like:

Under the supervision of the school administration, you will supervise a team of custodians to maintain an assigned school facility, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner following a predetermined schedule; and do other related work as required. This will include:

  • Assisting in the planning, organizing, and leading of custodial and routine maintenance functional activities in accordance with a predetermined work schedule.
  • Inspecting and reviewing the work of a custodial work crew, and provide assistance and direction as necessary.
  • Performing skilled custodial functions in the setup, arrangement, and operation of special purpose equipment, such as stage lighting panels, curtain operation, set arrangements, and other similar functions.
  • May lead and participate in the preparation of athletic fields and the setup of physical education equipment.
  • Preparing supply, material, and equipment requests in maintaining an adequate operational inventory.
  • Performing routine maintenance and preventative maintenance functions, including equipment adjustments, lubrication, and simple part replacement.
  • Assisting in the planning and conducting of orientation and in-service training programs.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of custodial operational records and custodial personnel time reports.
  • Performing general custodial functions, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, dusting, polishing, vacuuming, washing walls, and other general cleaning tasks.
  • Providing technical input into the performance appraisal of custodial personnel.
  • Assisting custodial personnel in resolving unusual problems and situations.
  • Inspecting heating, ventilation, and water systems to ensure adherence to operational procedures and guidelines.
  • Sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and sealing floors.
  • Vacuuming rugs and carpets.
  • Dusting, washing, and polishing furniture and woodwork.
  • Emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, including trash barrels.
  • You will clean restrooms, locker rooms, and showers.
  • Wash windows and walls, polish metalwork, and clean whiteboards.
  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment in preparing multipurpose rooms or classrooms for special events or meetings.
  • Replace light bulbs and lighting tubes.
  • Clean window coverings, such as drapes and blinds.
  • Pick up debris from school grounds, walk areas, and the areas adjacent to the school facilities.
  • Sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to the school buildings.
  • Perform emergency cleanup services resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling, and illness.
  • You may raise and lower flags, and lock and unlock gates, and doors, and set security systems.
  • Assist in receiving and distributing supplies and equipment.
  • You may occasionally perform routine ground maintenance functions.
  • Assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism.
  • Other tasks as assigned by school administration.
