The Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department is seeking an individual who excels in leading and actively engaging in the intricate tasks of inspecting, cleaning, repairing, disinfecting, implementing vector control, and maintaining both gravity and pressure-based sanitary sewage conveyance systems. This position may involve dynamic assignments in either gravity or pumping systems.

Essential Functions:

Assigns tasks to crewmembers;
Trains others in maintenance and inspection techniques;
Locates and removes blockages in sewer lines and manholes;
Performs operator-level servicing, adjustment, and maintenance of specialized tools, equipment, assigned vehicles, and machinery;
Ensures compliance with all operational safety regulations by maintaining and using safety and personal protective equipment and implementing safety-training procedures;
Establishes and maintains appropriate worksite traffic control/warning devices and measures.
Leads, directs, and trains Utility Maintenance Workers in the inspection, cleaning, repair, and maintenance of sewage conveyance and pumping systems.
Installs, adjusts, and services flow and atmospheric sampling and metering equipment, ensuring proper operation.
Operates and performs operator-level servicing of specialized equipment such as pressure cleaners, sprayers, vacuum machines, and pumping equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance on sewer lines, cleanouts, manhole structures, and wastewater pumping systems, including pump and valve rebuilding
Ensures proper disposal and handling of hazardous materials, pesticides, disinfectants, and oxidizing agents in accordance with safety guidelines.
Enforces safety regulations by maintaining safety equipment, implementing safety training, and establishing traffic control measures to ensure worker and public safety;
Compiles and submits activity reports to management and informs the public about repair and maintenance crew activities;
Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains industrial wastewater pumps, pumping systems, power-generating engines, and compressors;
Performs welding, concrete, carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing, and electrical work as needed for equipment and structural repairs, including site mitigation/remediation following Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO).
Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of experience in the operation, maintenance, construction, or repair of sewage or wastewater conveyance systems including two years of experience in sewer maintenance.
OR:
One year of experience with Pima County as a Utility Maintenance Worker II.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Possess an ADEQ Collection System Grade 3 Certification.
Possess a valid Commercial Drivers License, Class B with Tanker endorsement.
Minimum one (1) year of field experience working as a lead within a sewer collection system.
Selection Procedure :
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. A dditional assessments/testing may be r equired as part of the selection process .
Supplemental Information:
Licenses and Certificates : All positions require possession of a valid Grade 3 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Collection certification and a valid Class B Arizona commercial driver license (CDL), with appropriate endorsements, at time of appointment. V alid driver's license is required at the time of application. Valid AZ driver's license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine the applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. This position requires a valid Arizona Class D drivers license at the time of application or prior to completion of initial /promotional probation. A valid Arizona commercial driver's license (CDL), Class A, Class B, or Class C with appropriate endorsements is required. For these positions, failure to maintain the required CDL may be grounds for termination. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Failure to obtain/ maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
Special Notice Items : The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education and criminal conviction history. Physical/Sensory Requirements : All positions require the ability to lift up to 75 pounds for brief periods. All positions require the ability to enter and work in confined spaces, which may require the proper wearing of individual safety and protective equipment.
