Job Details Since first welcoming guests in 1922, the Tabard Inn located in historic Dupont Circle has proudly remained Washington, D.C.'s longest continuously operating inn and restaurant. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced AM Restaurant Supervisor to join our team and help uphold our tradition of exceptional hospitality.
The AM Restaurant Supervisor is a crucial role responsible for the precise and consistent setup of the restaurant for daily breakfast and lunch service. This individual acts as the keyholder for the morning shift, ensuring all opening procedures are executed to the restaurant's standards before the doors open at 7:30 am. The ideal AM Restaurant Supervisor is detail-oriented, reliable, and thrives on following established systems. This position is a supervisory role focused on execution and preparation, not on making high-level strategic or subjective operational decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Opening & Facility Preparation:
- Arrive punctually to support opening procedures.
- Conduct a thorough walkthrough of all dining areas (lounge, main dining room, bar, courtyard, brown parlor and overlook) to assess cleanliness and readiness from the previous night's close.
- Turn on all designated interior and exterior lights, music, and climate control systems according to prescribed settings.
- Prepare and distribute an accurate cash drawer to the bar.
Dining Room & Service Setup:
- Review the daily reservation sheet to identify any large parties, special requests, or VIP guests.
- Implement the pre-determined floor plan and server section assignments created by management.
- Ensure all tables are set perfectly according to Tabard Inn standards for breakfast/lunch service, including proper napkins, placemats, silverware, and glassware.
- Verify that all service stations are fully stocked with necessary supplies (e.g., napkins, coasters, share plates, condiments, coffee/tea service items).
- Confirm that sufficient quantities of all menus (breakfast, brunch, lunch, beverage) are available at the host stand.
Staff Readiness & Communication:
- Serve as the first point of contact for the opening Front of House team (servers, hosts, bussers).
- Lead a brief, efficient pre-shift meeting to communicate essential information for the day (e.g., menu specials, 86'd items, reservation notes) as provided by the kitchen and management.
- Ensure all opening staff are in proper uniform and have completed their assigned opening side work.
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor to set the tone for the day.
Operational Support:
- Act as a support for the host stand during the initial guest arrival period, assisting with greeting and seating to ensure a smooth start to service.
- Communicate any maintenance issues or supply shortages discovered during opening (e.g., a wobbly table, a burnt-out lightbulb) to the manager on duty and/or maintenance in a timely manner.
- Receive and direct any early morning deliveries or vendors according to restaurant protocol.
- Make necessary changes to the Toast POS system to reflect changes in price or inventory quantities.
- Process discounts and voids as necessary.
- Deescalate conflicts as necessary, resolve and/or provide information to the Manager on Duty when they arrive.
- Clean and organize the FOH inventory for Beer, Wine, Liquor, Soda and Paper Goods
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand and walk for the whole duration of the shift
- Ability to walk up and down stairs, as the property is a historical building
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
