SUMMARY: The Barista is responsible for providing high quality beverage and meal service to residents, guests, and employees. The Barista ensures that the lounge area and dining experience is pleasant, safe, and meets the standards for quality menu items, service, and sanitation per DRV policies and Oregon Food Code.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Takes beverage and food orders from residents, staff, and guests.
  • Prepares and serves espresso and other coffee and tea beverages to order.
  • Pours and serves soda, alcohol, and other beverage menu items.
  • Preps and keeps adequate supply of items on beverage menu.
  • Serves menu items to customers in lounge and other dining areas as needed.
  • Uses correct portion control and recipes as directed by supervisor to ensure costs are managed and contained.
  • Delivers room delivery orders to resident apartments in a timely manner to preserve food temperatures and quality.
  • Perform table clearing, dishwashing and cleaning procedures as needed.
  • Keep the grab and go area in the back kitchen clean and organized.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
  • Always follow safety regulations and follow established food safety policies and procedures.
  • Uses correct portion control and recipes as directed by supervisor to ensure costs are managed and contained.
  • Restock the grab and go cooler and beverage cooler at the beginning of the shift and before leaving for the day (when product is available).
  • Ensure all grab and go items are not expired. All ready to eat items have a five day shelf life. If the quality of product is not up to par, items can be discarded earlier.
  • Ensure quality of items going into the grab and go are presentable and up to par before restocking. If not, communicate with your manager/chef.
  • Ensure adequate amount of beer and wine are stocked at the bar.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
  • Prior foodservice experience preferred, however on the job training is provided.
  • Must be able to provide a high level of hospitality service to many residents within a short period of time.
  • Must possess a valid Oregon Food Handlers card.
  • Ability to communicate with, understand, empathize with, work with and be tolerant of residents, families, visitors, peers and supervisors.
  • Must be able to perform duties in a timely manner consistent with the needs of the residents, dining room standards, and assigned schedules.
  • Must be able to understand and effectively support and apply DRV policies and procedures as they apply to circumstances that arise.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste and disease (HBV and HIV).
  • Will be exposed to heat in kitchen work areas and cold temperatures in food storage/freezer areas.
  • Stands, bends, lifts, moves and walks throughout workday.
  • May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc, up to fifty pounds throughout the workday.
  • May be required to work after regular work hours, or holidays or weekends.
  • May be required to work on shifts other than the shift initially hired for.
  • Exposed to slippery floors.
  • Exposed to odors.
  • Exposed to sharp blades and objects throughout the day.
  • Exposed to various chemical throughout the day.
