Parks Maintenance Worker - Weekend Crew

About our opportunity:

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position ofParks andRecreation Maintenance Workerin the Parks and Recreation Department. This full-time, non-exempt position performs routine grounds, building maintenance, and custodial functions, serving as a laborer on one of our Parks Asset Management Weekend Crews.

What you'll be doing:

• Operate hand and power tools for landscaping and mowing activities, including lawn mowers and string trimmers.

• Perform tasks such as pulling weeds, dragging athletic fields, applying lime for marking, and spraying herbicides and pesticides.

• Pick up debris, remove refuse, and perform routine custodial services, including cleaning park restrooms.

• Load and unload materials on and off trucks.

• Maintain activity logs.

• Provide weather-related maintenance.

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment, fuel vehicles, inspect equipment daily, and assist in repair work.

• Responsible for unlocking and locking park facilities and equipment.

• Position signs, marking cones, and flags to identify work areas.

• Provide event support by setting up tables, chairs, and/or tents.

About you:

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:

Minimum requirements

• High school diploma or GED/equivalent required.

• North Carolina valid driver's license required.

• Experience in operating trucks/vehicles towing or pulling trailers carrying various equipment and tools such as mowers, weedeaters, edgers and other landscape tools.
