Job Summary

This position is responsible for the custodial maintenance of campus buildings and facilities. This position is designated by the College as Essential Personnel. Some overtime and weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities

1 -

Cleans buildings, classrooms, restrooms and drinking fountains.

2 -

Dusts and cleans chalk boards and offices and flat surfaces; washes windows, walls, glass doors, and classroom equipment; may work from a ladder; polishes brass.

3 -

Collects and empties trash.

4 -

Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets.

5 -

Reports damaged structures and equipment; maintains entranceways to buildings.

6 -

Moves office furniture and equipment; assists in setting up facilities for special events.

7 -

Performs related work as required.

  • Must be able to report to work on time and be dependable in attendance.
  • Must possess a current valid drivers license.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to random drug testing

  • Some custodial experience is preferred; experience with commercial floor care equipment is desirable.

Proposed Salary

$15.25 / hr

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

  • Ability to exercise care in the exposure to chemical, mechanical or electrical hazards.
  • Ability to follow routine oral and written instructions.
  • Work long hours at manual tasks and to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • The work is typically performed while intermittely standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office or stockroom, in a variety of college buildings, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious disease, or irritant chemicals. Works requires the use of protective devices such as masks, googles, gloves, etc.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and tools used in custodial services.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use related equipment including, but not limited to, rotary buffers and carpet extracting machines.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
