The Housekeeping Aid (HKA) - Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the pient care experience the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as a HKA-EVS Technician means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.
The Housekeeping Aid (Leader) is a working leader for housekeeping operions throughout the VA Medical Center(s). The position leads Housekeeping Aids and others as assigned. The position leads three (3) or more employees in performing their duties while performing the full range of housekeeping tasks required to maintain the Medical center and other facility units in a clean, organized and sanitary condition. The position is guided by EMS and Medical Center policies and procedures, VA regulions and verbal instructions from EMS Management.
The leader communices instructions from the Supervisor to the employees and then valides the completion of the work assigned.
The position coordines projects with nurses and other area supervisors to ensure work timely and successful completion.
This position sets the pace of each task, demonstres methods and techniques and provides direction to assigned employees in their proper usage is cleaning supplies and equipment.
Ensures all tasks are complete and deadlines are met.
The Housekeeping Aid Leader engages with all employees to provide purpose, direction and motivion in accomplishing all tasks, while training the employee in proper procedures and techniques to meet or exceed desired outcomes of workload and safety.
This position reports progress of employees to the Supervisor and makes recommendions as necessary, on all mters to include the progress of work, any infractions of policies and procedures, and assures all safety compliance.
This position also performs the full range of housekeeping duties. The employee may clean areas to include, but not limited to horizontal and vertical surfaces in: outpient surgery, outpient clinics, central sterile, clean rooms, pient areas, laborory, pharmacy, offices, support and pient areas, isolion rooms, storage rooms, corridors, stairwells, toilet rooms, shower rooms, and all other Medical center areas as required.
The position is required to use proper procedures in dust mopping, damp mopping, emptying waste receptacles, emptying and replacing medical waste receptacle, washing walls, cleaning light fixtures, and surfaces as necessary, refilling toilet tissue, paper towels and soap dispensers.
The position makes beds and turns mtresses.
May be required to take the lead in textile distribution and inventory management, uniform management and Pient Assistance Program; provides on-the-job training to all employees assigned.
Identifies and recommends to the Supervisor employees th need remedial training based on observions made in the work site.
May be required to move furniture and set up conference rooms for meetings, trainings or other events.
Additionally, the position scrubs, strips, refinishes, and polishes floors by using hand opered and industrial equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessite considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordinion, and concentrion as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adeque he, light, and ventilion. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of he and cold as well as inclement weher. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous merials.

The Housekeeping Aid (HKA) - Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the pient care experience the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as a HKA-EVS Technician means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.
The Housekeeping Aid (Leader) is a working leader for housekeeping operions throughout the VA Medical Center(s). The position leads Housekeeping Aids and others as assigned. The position leads three (3) or more employees in performing their duties while performing the full range of housekeeping tasks required to maintain the Medical center and other facility units in a clean, organized and sanitary condition. The position is guided by EMS and Medical Center policies and procedures, VA regulions and verbal instructions from EMS Management.
The leader communices instructions from the Supervisor to the employees and then valides the completion of the work assigned.
The position coordines projects with nurses and other area supervisors to ensure work timely and successful completion.
This position sets the pace of each task, demonstres methods and techniques and provides direction to assigned employees in their proper usage is cleaning supplies and equipment.
Ensures all tasks are complete and deadlines are met.
The Housekeeping Aid Leader engages with all employees to provide purpose, direction and motivion in accomplishing all tasks, while training the employee in proper procedures and techniques to meet or exceed desired outcomes of workload and safety.
This position reports progress of employees to the Supervisor and makes recommendions as necessary, on all mters to include the progress of work, any infractions of policies and procedures, and assures all safety compliance.
This position also performs the full range of housekeeping duties. The employee may clean areas to include, but not limited to horizontal and vertical surfaces in: outpient surgery, outpient clinics, central sterile, clean rooms, pient areas, laborory, pharmacy, offices, support and pient areas, isolion rooms, storage rooms, corridors, stairwells, toilet rooms, shower rooms, and all other Medical center areas as required.
The position is required to use proper procedures in dust mopping, damp mopping, emptying waste receptacles, emptying and replacing medical waste receptacle, washing walls, cleaning light fixtures, and surfaces as necessary, refilling toilet tissue, paper towels and soap dispensers.
The position makes beds and turns mtresses.
May be required to take the lead in textile distribution and inventory management, uniform management and Pient Assistance Program; provides on-the-job training to all employees assigned.
Identifies and recommends to the Supervisor employees th need remedial training based on observions made in the work site.
May be required to move furniture and set up conference rooms for meetings, trainings or other events.
Additionally, the position scrubs, strips, refinishes, and polishes floors by using hand opered and industrial equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessite considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordinion, and concentrion as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adeque he, light, and ventilion. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of he and cold as well as inclement weher. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous merials.
